We booked the hotel expecting a standard room. When we arrived (easy to find), we were welcomed and shown down the small street the hotel is in. At this point, we were very worried having read reviews of people being given poor quality 'satellite' rooms in neighbouring blocks as an overflow from the main hotel. We entered through a tatty... The only plus side to this hotel is the location...it's beyond ideal. This is right in San Marco's square, right in the middle of restaurants, shopping, etc. The hotel staff was also very nice. Now for the downside. The mattress was horrible, we literally felt the springs while sleeping, the pillows were like rocks and horrible to sleep on, there... More

This hotel is close to the San Zacharia pier, about 5 minutes walk and only one bridge... We had a room at the front, first floor ( there is an elevator ) at night it was a bit noisy on the street. The beds are comfy, room was clean, wifi working, shower ok, staff friendly and helpful, breakfast good. So nice... More

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was perfectly adequate with a help yourself buffet offering the usual cereals, croissants, fruit, cake, meat and cheese. The rooms were very clean. At times there was noise from the street outside but I think that is to be expected in the centre of Venice. Most importantly the hotel was in... More

we arrived after believe it or not 3 hours transit from the airport ( public transport water ferry - that's another story) with 2 very large bags luckily for us the hotel was only a 10 minute walk from the water ferry port. Upon arrival was well looked after by staff and settled into a nice room on the 3rd... More

Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino is a medium-sized hotel in one of the best locations in Venice. Only steps away from San Zaccaria (Alilaguna airport transfer) and St Mark's Square. Clean rooms and attentive staff. Breakfast is a little basic though.

My family and I were here for 1 night during our last stop of our Italy tour (Rome and Florence) last March 31, 2014. I've never been to Venice so I didn't know what to expect in terms of accommodations but the hotel OK. The rating is more like a 3.5 due to the following: - Our room was on... More

We stayed here in June as part of our honeymoon trip during which we also visited London, Paris, Florence and Rome. I picked this hotel based on reviews and location and was not disappointed! We flew in from Paris and took the water taxi to the hotel. The taxis can be a little cramped but very reasonable. The location of... More

I will put my review very simple..The reason you should chose this Hotel is the location..The best in Venice..Two mins from St Mark's Square and less than a minute from the Vaporatti or the water taxi drop off..The rooms are small but comfortable..The flip side of the hotel is the service..There was only only plug point in the entire room... Hotel is two blocks from St Marc's Square. This is where everything is! Hotel is two blocks from water taxi drop off which makes it very easy to come from the airport! The breakfast included yogurts, fruits, toast, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, variety of hams, cheese, croissants, OJ, coffee, and tea. The breakfast was fresh and made by a friendly staff.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
