We recently stayed at the Hotel Orion for 7 nights. The hotel was absolutely perfect! Just minutes from St Marks square, so right in the middle of all the action Making everywhere in venice easily reachable (we walked everywhere happily) Once inside the hotel it is quiet and peaceful and spotlessly clean. The staff are so friendly, helpful and a... More

Hotel staff very friendly, very accommodating. Allowed us to keep luggage there before and after checkout, and were even able to print tour reservations for us. Breakfast was typical hotel breakfast, nothing special. Room was small, but nice. Hairdryer was worthless, air drying hair outside is quicker. Location was great. Very close to St. Mark's square, and not too far... More

We really enjoyed how central this hotel was to all the action. The room was quiet and very comfortable. We had a window that opened out onto the street too which was lovely. The breakfast was good and the staff attentive to our needs.

The Orion Hotel is an oasis in the small back lanes of Venice,it is a two star but in My view if you are looking for a clean, safe and very friendly base whilst exploring Venice it ticks all the boxes. The Orion is 3mins away from St Marc's square and 10mins from the Rialto bridge. The rooms are clean and... More

Plainly decorated rooms disappoint in charm factor but good service staff. Clean room and breakfast room pleasant. Main desk guy very helpful. We knew there was no elevator so we're not surprised by stairs. Very close to sights and location big plus.

Spent a week in venice staying here. Hotel is in a great location not even a 10 minute walk to the square. Staff are really friendly and willing to help where they can they spoke a little English but tried there best. As the hotel only has stairs and we were on the 3rd floor the gent at reception carried... More

This is a very nice hotel. A little pricey, this historic hotel a block from San Marco's is worth the money. The staff went out of there way to be helpful. Our only issue was that the lack of an elevator made the experience hard for my father ho has a mobility issue. Overall a very nice place to stay.

Clean room, polite staff, close to St. Marks Square, excellent value for Venice, Cappuccino and croissants for breakfast we very good. Only challenge is stairs, so elderly may have an issue. no issue for use. Roberto, the owner is actively managing and taking care of guests. We will be back.

Firstly the caveats. This hotel is a 2 star hotel and the room is on the smaller side...especially the bathroom (be warned the shower takes a little of a strategy to keep the water in). The walls are a little thin (we heard the odd cough during the night coming from another room); there is no lift and we were... More

Very good located hotel, close to all sightseeings and best places, friendly personnel, clean facilities, good price, light breakfast, recommended to all travellers, from St. Luis railway station can walk over the bridge and walk to the hotel if the baggage is light otherwise can use bus and go off at rialto bridge station on the grand canalle.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
