Easy to find from Piazzale Roma, right in front of the water bus stop (4.1 or 5.1 or the slower no.1 down the Grand Canal) at San Zaccaria. We have stayed in other hotels in Venice, but this one is the best for the price. Our front room was a little noisy in the evenings, but the view cannot be... More

We have just returned from sharing a triple room at the Hotel Paganelli! Staff were very friendly, even recommending and booking for us a local restaurant ( which was fantastic!). Hotel itself is situated just at the waterbus stop, which is great meaning dont have to carry heavy suitcases around from airport. Interior of hotel was lovely, beautiful bathroom and... More

So So pleased we chose this hotel. It is only small but is ideally situated just around the corner from St Marks Square. Our family room at the rear of the hotel overlooked the courtyard. It was very clean and had all the services you would expect from a hotel bedroom. The bathroom was very up to date and had... More

This hotel proved to be an great choice for our stay in Venice. As other people have said, the hotel is in an excellent position right next to a water bus stop and very close to Piazza San Marco and the Doge's Palace. I am surprised that one reviewer said it was difficult to find - it certainly isn't! The... More

So we just stayed at the Hotel Paganelli this past weekend and we had some overall pretty good experiences, but also things that kind of made us feel not very welcome. Hotel Paganelli is a great location for a tourist in Venice and very close to the main tourist attractions. BUT, getting there can be difficult, and their directions on... More

We stayed at the Hotel Paganelli for 5 nights in March 2015. We got a brilliant deal from lastminute.com and stayed in the annexe section of the hotel, which is in the passageway next to the main hotel and is the building where you have breakfast. The breakfast was simple with cereals, bread, cheese, meats and croissants and was a... More

This hotel is perfect! It takes about thirty minutes to reach from the train station by boat ferry but once you reach the hotel it is five minutes walking from the Bridge of Sighs, six minutes from St Mark's Square and one minute walk to the ferry taxi boat. The hotel is small, clean and trendy with a spacious room... More

This hotel was great. It is in an awesome location, right on the water so about a minute walk to the vaporetto stop. Also about 5 minutes walk to Doges Palace and St. Marks Square. It included breakfast: eggs, cereal, pastries, meat and cheese tray. Staff was very helpful and the bed was comfortable!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 1 of our two nights stay in Venice (they were fully booked for the second night). The location of the hotel is perfect, 50m from where the ferry drop off point. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful and even had a towel heater. The staff was... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
