The room was small but clean and tidy. Breakfast was included and was decent, not a very wide selection but simple. The staff were very friendly and helpful in directing us to attractions. Location was not bad as it was close to the water taxi station.

Obviously, I booked this place for the location/convenience and cost. It was perfect for me. I was exhausted from a red eye and the staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. They convinced me to stay in for dinner and I loved it! Mosquitoes are bad in Venice when you're on the inner canals so I recommend repellant. Food/wine was great... More

My gosh. Where can I begin? 1. Room is very small. We are 4 persons. The bed may be fit for us, but the room is very small. We can't even open our baggage. Geez. 2. AC was LEAKING!! (seriously????) 3. Bathroom door can't be locked. 4. Water for shower run slower than the sink 5. Noisy neighborhood The only... More

Staff were friendly on arrival. It was weird there was no toilet paper or towels in our room on arrival but we called reception and they bought some toilet paper right away. Linen cupboard was outside our room so we just helped ourselves for towels. We booked a double room but it was just two single beds pushed together but... More

Rooms are standard however, our only view was of the wall of the building next door or straight into next doors room! Was quiet noisy as we heard all the water pipes and drainage when a room next door flushed the toilet. When we were there there was restoration work going on and they started their noisy work at 8am!!... More

My wife and I had an OK dinner here but paying the bill was crazy. In the end they insisted, very strongly, that I have to pay twice. It's a long story involving their credit card machine and a paper jam. I emailed them asking for one of the payments to be refunded ... no reply. The bottom line, this... More

Nice hotel, attention to detail in the rooms and making it non-smoking would take away that stale cigarette smell. Breakfast was very nice, staff were kind and pricing was good for Venice. Would definitely stay again and recommend to the budget traveller.

On arrival at the hotel we were upgraded to room 40 as I had let the hotel this was the last night of our holiday celebrating our Silver Wedding. The room was quite large with a view of the canal which was charming. The rooms are tired, no fridge of tea/coffee facilities but adequate for a night or two. Our... More

We were pleasantly surprised at central the Messner was located to sites in Venice. Room was small but very comfortable -- the toilet was running continuously when we arrived, but quickly fixed when reported to management. As expected, breakfast was included, but an added bonus was a 30% discount on other meals in the hotel restaurant, which were quite good.

Large bed was not very comfortable. The shower was small, but hot and good water-flow. Everything was a bit outdated. If the air conditioner worked, we couldn't figure out how. Buffet breakfast was very nice for being included! The location is a long walk from the bus stop, so take a water taxi if you have much luggage. Easy walk... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
