Great hotel with great view of the canal. The location was perfect and the staff was very helpful. The resturant had great food and was fun to sit on the water with lots of boats passing by. The morning breakfast was very nice. The only drawback was the safe was on the floor in the back of the closet and... More

This hotel is well located in the Zetere district. Much quieter than other parts of Venice. Our room was lovely with three windows, two to the Giudecca Canal - very spacious apart from the bathroom which had very little shelf space. Wifi in hotel very patchy and reception not too helpful answering fairly simple tourist type questions.

The hotel is in a great location but in the 6 yrs since I last went there nothing has changed. The room was smaller than the one I stayed in before and instead of having a classic, understated style was now a bit on the shabby side, especially the bathroom which was downright dated. At 350 euros per night I... More

Nice location, nice neighborhood, very nice staff. Breakfast outside. - watching the busy life on the quay - and on the canal was a great way to start the day in Venice. - as well as a great place to enjoy the aperitivo at sunset. Nice room facing the canal, - will be back - next time in Venice....

We picked the hotel by chance as Venice is quiet full this weekend and we love it. Nice rom with a little balcony. Thr district Dorsoduro is great, calm and directly at a canal. Best so far all over Venice. Could not be better. . .

La Calcina, the house where Ruskin wrote his monumental Stones of Venice, is an intimate pensione that is away from the crowds. The rooms are impeccable and of course 'cozy'. My grandparents stayed here every September from 1959 to 1971. I wish I could do the same!

Pros: quiet location in Dorsoduro, close to Vaporetto and Alllilaguna (airport ferry) stops. Great breakfast. Small elegant hotel feel to downstairs. Decent restaurant/sidewalk tables. Clean. Good A/C. Handy WC in hall if you both need the bathroom at the same time. Helpful service. Cons: unable to give us coffee early in the a.m. when getting up to catch an early... More

LOCATION: Read about this property on the web before going to Venice in early September 2014. Familiar with location because we once stayed at the Hilton Stucky-Molino Hotel right across from Pensione La Calcina on the other side of the Giudecca canal. The Dorsoduro District is a great neighborhood away from crowds and nice entry point into the rest of... More

This was our 4th time at this little gem of an hotel (our first visit was back in 1987). It is ideally situated on Zattere in Dorsoduro (away from the milling crowds). Because we were celebrating a special birthday my husband booked our room many months in advance to ensure getting a front room right on the canal (which is... More

I booked a two-night stay in a double room (with air-conditioning and ensuite bathroom) in La Calcina through their official website. However, when I checked-in, the receptionist told me that they were giving me a "free upgrade to a junior suite" and showed me to the suite after taking a long time to look for the keys and to unlock...
