Pros: quiet location in Dorsoduro, close to Vaporetto and Alllilaguna (airport ferry) stops. Great breakfast. Small elegant hotel feel to downstairs. Decent restaurant/sidewalk tables. Clean. Good A/C. Handy WC in hall if you both need the bathroom at the same time. Helpful service. Cons: unable to give us coffee early in the a.m. when getting up to catch an early... More

LOCATION: Read about this property on the web before going to Venice in early September 2014. Familiar with location because we once stayed at the Hilton Stucky-Molino Hotel right across from Pensione La Calcina on the other side of the Giudecca canal. The Dorsoduro District is a great neighborhood away from crowds and nice entry point into the rest of... More

This was our 4th time at this little gem of an hotel (our first visit was back in 1987). It is ideally situated on Zattere in Dorsoduro (away from the milling crowds). Because we were celebrating a special birthday my husband booked our room many months in advance to ensure getting a front room right on the canal (which is... More

I booked a two-night stay in a double room (with air-conditioning and ensuite bathroom) in La Calcina through their official website. However, when I checked-in, the receptionist told me that they were giving me a "free upgrade to a junior suite" and showed me to the suite after taking a long time to look for the keys and to unlock... I traveled with my daughter to Venice and stayed at La Calcina. I fell in love with this small hotel for many reasons, its great location, the unbeatable view and its unpretentious elegance. Our room was small but had everything we needed. The staff is friendly and helpful. The very good breakfast, served at a beautiful deck facing the Canal... More

We had the most wonderful time at La Calcina. If you want to be away from the crowds this is it. We had a small side room but if you peered round the shutters you could just see the canal which was a bonus as we werent expecting it. Room was small but adequate for our needs. Great shower. My... This is a lovely place to stay it is more like being in a home than at a hotel, many of the rooms have splendid views and the restaurant is very good, staff also very friendly and pleasant. Right now, it is good value, but they are renovating, but hopefully it will retain its olde worlde charm and good value!

Fabulous stay for a week we couldn't have asked for better. Very comfortable staff very helpful breakfasts on the waterfront memorable. So convenient for the water bus stop. The hotel was quiet at night and the rooms kept scrupulous clean we highly recommend hotel and area and loved every moment saving for another visit.

Very nice hotel located close enough to all the action but far enough away to get some peace and quiet. Staff was very nice and helpful. When you arrive, be sure to take the 5.2 or the 2 water bus, don't make mistake of trying to carry bags across the city and the number of bridges you will inevitably encounter.

We had 3rd floor corner room (304 maybe?) and it had a gorgeous view. This is a great hotel to stay at if you want to get away from the crowds after a day of sight-seeing. Fun to look out and see massive cruise ships going by along side small fishing boats. The Zattere waterbus stop is a mere 5... More
