I stayed in LaCalcina with my family for four nights. The rooms were nice, and the location right on the Guidecca waterway fabulous, and the staff were very helpful. On arrival at the airport, we took a water taxi from the airport straight to a dock in front of the hotel for E 110, which is a magical way to... More

We booked the room through the hotel’s own site, weekend two nights, double room with view (270 EUR/night). They advertise this type of rooms as an elegant and bright with stunning views over the Giudecca Canal. Guess what, the lady at the reception said that they don’t have the room we booked and they have to put us for the... More

We enjoyed our stay very much. This hotel was slightly older in style, but it was very clean and comfortable. The staff were so charming and friendly, the room was quiet, and the location very handy for sightseeing. We loved the restaurant on the water, and would stay here again.

Don't believe the photograph of the room on the website. That could be a special one. In reality our Room 25 was extra SMALL! Even the shower block was meant for size zero people. If you drop your soap, forget about picking it up. There is no view, barring the neighboring wall. The TV is a tiny "box" placed near... More

I have stayed twice on my visits to Venice and loved the service and Venetian style; location was easy to recall as I traveled alone and felt comfortable finding my way 'home' in the evenings. Wish they had availability for my upcoming visit in September, but not surprised the Calcina is booked. Far superior to the neighboring pensione. CCWashburn

As my title says, the staff at La Calcina was very helpful just when I needed advice or assistance. The location was perfect, right at a stop on the Alilaguna airport service and in walking distance of San Marco. The building is beautiful, too. My room was very small, but I did not need to pay for a lot of... More

The Pensione La Calcina is located directly on the Giudecca Canal. We stayed for five nights and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of its staff. Breakfast on the "pontoon" in front of the hotel afforded a beautiful view of Palladio's Chiesa del Redentore on the opposite side of the canal. The property is well located within easy walking distance of the... More

La Calcina is a wonderful comfortable family run hotel on Dorsoruro. Very comfortable room with fabulous view across the Giudecca. Excellent Restaurant with very helpful attentive staff. We can't wait to return.

The hotel is well situated,on the Canal in front of the Giudecca Island. Only fw minutes walk from University Ca' Foscari and from the Accademia. My room was small but anyway a very nice and quiet single room. The breakfast was very good and the view from dining room is really lovely. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in nice and quiet location away from the crowd with a view overlooking Giudecca Canal. The water bus stop (Zattere) is few minutes away. Room is quite small but nice and clean. Breakfast is good. The only negative thing is the room is not quite soundproof and our room was next to the staff room so we... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
