The Pensione La Calcina is located directly on the Giudecca Canal. We stayed for five nights and enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of its staff. Breakfast on the "pontoon" in front of the hotel afforded a beautiful view of Palladio's Chiesa del Redentore on the opposite side of the canal. The property is well located within easy walking distance of the... More

La Calcina is a wonderful comfortable family run hotel on Dorsoruro. Very comfortable room with fabulous view across the Giudecca. Excellent Restaurant with very helpful attentive staff. We can't wait to return.

The hotel is well situated,on the Canal in front of the Giudecca Island. Only fw minutes walk from University Ca' Foscari and from the Accademia. My room was small but anyway a very nice and quiet single room. The breakfast was very good and the view from dining room is really lovely. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in nice and quiet location away from the crowd with a view overlooking Giudecca Canal. The water bus stop (Zattere) is few minutes away. Room is quite small but nice and clean. Breakfast is good. The only negative thing is the room is not quite soundproof and our room was next to the staff room so we... More

I stayed last week and enjoyed every second. 2 minutes from the Vaporetto stop and no getting lost......handy to everything but nice and quiet. Rooms are spotless and have what looks like brand new bathrooms. To some the rooms may be small but as I'm there to sleep and shower that isn't important to me. Super comfortable bed, generous continental... More

The hotel is in a great location and the rooms were nice. There is an expensive restaurant in hotel if you don't want to go out. Breakfast was very good and view of water outstanding. Very close to water bus stop. The only fault I had was they are efficient but not really friendly and helpful. I find those qualities... More

Dear Madam/Dear Sir, thank you for your review. I'm so sorry that you didn't find our staff so friendly and helpful. This is exactly what I require from my collaborators: to be friendly, smiling and helpful with all our clients. And it is actually what they normally do. I promise more attention to your inquiries during your next stay at... More

First time of traveling on my own and the staff were very good. The location is wonderful both for the Alilaguna and close to Academia for the vaporetti which makes exploration of Venice very easy. The buffet breakfast was very filling and the dining room has a great view of the Guidecca canal, as did my bedroom.

Calcina is positioned on the wide water bustling with small boat traffic overlooking the residential Giudecca island. This gives Calcina a uniquely airy feel in central Venice, an advantage not matched by any other of the excellent hotels. This is what the writer liked best. The interior keeps unashamedly the comfort and style which appeals to an unhurried traveller keen... More

The hotel staff were really friendly and the hotel room (a view over the canal is a must) although small was perfectly clean and had everything you need. Breakfast was lovely and the terrace outside perfect for a lazy lunch. The hotel is in the Dorsoduro area which is really peaceful with a wonderful view over to Molino Stucky and... More

Dear Madam, Italian ice cream is a must, especially if good like the one made by our friends of Nico or home made by our chef Riccardo. I would suggest our vanilla, coffee or strawberry ice cream! I think that a good day should start with a perfect breakfast, so we do our best to offer the best experience. Thank... More

This hotel is right at the canal. The room was clean but unfortunately pretty small. I think the pain reason to stay here is the breakfast which is superbe! Nice bread, cheese and the best of all is the italian ham! Would I go there again? YES, but I would request a bigger room!

Dear Madam, Dear Sir, I'm so happy to read that you have enjoyed your stay at La Calcina. We know, some rooms are a bit smaller than others. As you can imagine, this is tipical of all historical hotels in Venice. For your next visit, we promise a bigger room, just remind us, please! Thank you Best regards More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
