Pensione La Calcina is a great place from which to explore Venice. The hotel's restaurant, La Piscina, was first-rate and having a reservation for the night we arrived--tired and ready to relax--was wonderful. We stayed at Pensione La Calcina in Dorsoduro district of Venice for two nights prior to taking a cruise. For us the location was perfect...quiet but a short walk (15min) to everything. We really enjoyed Pensione La Calcina. Quiet & convenient! The staff were very helpful. If you get a vaporetti card (and we recommend it), the Zattere stop is very close. The very best thing about it is having breakfast on the pontoon floating on the Giudecca waterway outside the hotel.
