Hotel in a great location, right on the water and 200 m from water taxi. Hotel rooms very old fashioned - on the plus side bed very comfortable and a/c very quiet however bathrooms badly in need of an upgrade and the hairdryer is a joke! . Breakfast is served right on the water however the quality of breakfast average... More

Location was good. The staff was excellent and very helpful. The restaurant was very good as well .The room was a bit disappointing. We expected to sit on balcony with a view, however it was just windows and only for viewing. Beware of Mosquitos entering room when enjoying the view there are no window screens. There is also no elevator... More

When I visited Venice last summer and stayed at La Calcina for the first time (six nights), it at once became MY Hotel in Venice. This summer I visited Venice again, and the stay at La Calcina was just as perfect as last year. La Calcina has a perfect location, super nice staff and a cute, old fashion interior decoration.... Stayed here 2 years ago in their lovely off-site Rosa apartment but were sad to learn that this had been sold. This time we had a 3rd floor room with a view. This is a 3-star so were not expecting the Ritz, but disappointed nonetheless. Positives - great location on the quieter Giudecca canal and a hop to either the... More

I was recently in Europe for two weeks - Paris and Venice. My stay at the Pensione La Calcina was the hightlight. I went with my boyfriend. We had a room that fronted on the Giudecca Canal. Every day giant cruise ships passed by our window and at night lighted ferries rode by illuminating the canal. It was fabulous. The... More

I stayed in LaCalcina with my family for four nights. The rooms were nice, and the location right on the Guidecca waterway fabulous, and the staff were very helpful. On arrival at the airport, we took a water taxi from the airport straight to a dock in front of the hotel for E 110, which is a magical way to... More

We booked the room through the hotel’s own site, weekend two nights, double room with view (270 EUR/night). They advertise this type of rooms as an elegant and bright with stunning views over the Giudecca Canal. Guess what, the lady at the reception said that they don’t have the room we booked and they have to put us for the... More

We enjoyed our stay very much. This hotel was slightly older in style, but it was very clean and comfortable. The staff were so charming and friendly, the room was quiet, and the location very handy for sightseeing. We loved the restaurant on the water, and would stay here again.

Don't believe the photograph of the room on the website. That could be a special one. In reality our Room 25 was extra SMALL! Even the shower block was meant for size zero people. If you drop your soap, forget about picking it up. There is no view, barring the neighboring wall. The TV is a tiny "box" placed near... More

Dear Sir, thank you for finding the time to write your review. Like most of venitian hotels, La Calcina is situated in a historical building. This is why all rooms are different, including view and size. We do the daily cleaning of the rooms in the morning, until 14.30. This is what normally happens in all 3 star hotels. If... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
