After studying various hotels and reviews, I decided on the Pausania as a romantic hotel with interesting historical features. Looking at photos for the hotel I saw chandeliers and paintings, just the hotel to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Or so I thought. The hotel is situated in a lovely spot in Dosoduro, but the room we were given was nothing... More

By chance rather than design we had a magnificent room with a painted ceiling overlooking the canal. There is a wonderful view of the Carmini to be had from the balcony of the lounge/landing. The hotel is close to the Ca' Rezonico vaporetto stop, on the Dorsoduoro, so the crowds are of students, not the day trippers who have totally... More

This was our 2nd stay at the Hotel Pausania, this time accompanied by our son and daughter in law on their first visit to Venice. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and on this visit arranged a private water taxi from the airport to the hotel passing San Marco and via the Grand Canal,on a bright sunny day it... I notice the hotel respond to bad reviews by saying "why didn't you tell us at the time?" We did tell them at the time and they were very rude. Firstly, the room was filthy; marks on walls, spillage not cleaned up, marks in the bathroom and mould, not to mention water leaks all over the ceiling and a paper... More

Lovely building with a pretty courtyard, quite easy to find on a minor canal, couple of minutes’ walk from Ca’ Rezzonico Vaporetto stop. We think we had one of the best rooms, overlooking the canal, with a reproduction on the ceiling of what we later discovered to be the Scuola Grande dei Carmini (which helped us to work out who... This is a wonderful and welcoming hotel and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The lovely staircase and the views from the main balcony are particularly memorable. If at all possible we would love to return.

This was our first time in Venice and the hotel was selected from the British Airways City Break site. I chose this as a surprise break for my wife and liked the look of the hotel which was originally an old merchants house. The location is excellent, by the side of one of the quieter canals but centrally located near... More

I went with my boyfriend in June and thought the place so good that it deserved me writing it a review many months later when i decided to join the site. I booked this place based on reviews and it's location. We arrived by water taxi (though expensive they can get you to right outside the place if it's your... More

Just returned from 3 nights in Venice with my boyfriend travelling with BA. Found the hotel easily after getting off the water taxi, it's just around the corner from the Leonardo da Vinci museum (which is a little disappointing) Great location, near Campo Margarita where there are lots of restaurants. You can walk to all the sights easily from this... More

Our first time in Venice and what a wonderful city it is, made all the more enjoyable by knowing that at the end of each day there was a warm welcome and a clean, comfortable room to come back to. Perfectly located with great restaurants and bars nearby but also easy walking distance to both the important sights and vaporetto... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
