The hotel is located in a quieter part of Venice. We found the location excellent, easy to get to from public transportation (a short walk). The room was very clean and a great experience for our first night in Venice and Italy. The room and good art work including a fresco on the ceiling. The room was large for a... More

Reviews seemed to vary quite wildly on here so I wasn't sure what to expect. Quite simply Hotel Pausania was a wonderful surprise. It is a beautiful 14th Century Palazzo in the Dorsoduro district within a stone's throw of countless great value and delicious restaurants. I went with my Mum and we both had single rooms. I was expecting to... More

With the exception of the extremely rude desk clerk the place was great. Exactly what we expected. Thankfully the older women on the desk was only there on our arrival and departure days. Everyone else was wonderful. The rooms were wonderful, very clean and quirky! This property was built in the 14th century so some things in the bathrooms were... More

After studying various hotels and reviews, I decided on the Pausania as a romantic hotel with interesting historical features. Looking at photos for the hotel I saw chandeliers and paintings, just the hotel to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Or so I thought. The hotel is situated in a lovely spot in Dosoduro, but the room we were given was nothing... More

By chance rather than design we had a magnificent room with a painted ceiling overlooking the canal. There is a wonderful view of the Carmini to be had from the balcony of the lounge/landing. The hotel is close to the Ca' Rezonico vaporetto stop, on the Dorsoduoro, so the crowds are of students, not the day trippers who have totally... More

This was our 2nd stay at the Hotel Pausania, this time accompanied by our son and daughter in law on their first visit to Venice. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful and on this visit arranged a private water taxi from the airport to the hotel passing San Marco and via the Grand Canal,on a bright sunny day it... I notice the hotel respond to bad reviews by saying "why didn't you tell us at the time?" We did tell them at the time and they were very rude. Firstly, the room was filthy; marks on walls, spillage not cleaned up, marks in the bathroom and mould, not to mention water leaks all over the ceiling and a paper... More

Lovely building with a pretty courtyard, quite easy to find on a minor canal, couple of minutes’ walk from Ca’ Rezzonico Vaporetto stop. We think we had one of the best rooms, overlooking the canal, with a reproduction on the ceiling of what we later discovered to be the Scuola Grande dei Carmini (which helped us to work out who... This is a wonderful and welcoming hotel and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The lovely staircase and the views from the main balcony are particularly memorable. If at all possible we would love to return.

This was our first time in Venice and the hotel was selected from the British Airways City Break site. I chose this as a surprise break for my wife and liked the look of the hotel which was originally an old merchants house. The location is excellent, by the side of one of the quieter canals but centrally located near... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
