My wife and I spent 3 days at Hotel Galleria in August 2015. Could not have asked for a better place. Its location is perfect. Right beside the Galleria vaporetto station. In Venice, it is very important to stay close to a Vaporetto Station so that you don't have to walk much with your luggage. The entrance is small, but... More

I'd been planning to stay at here for years after lots of recommendations from friends but always found it full during the summer months. What a pleasure to get the opportunity to stay during the quieter winter period when Venice is actually at it's best in my view. The Galleria definitely didn't disappoint and was perfect in every way: ideally... More

We had room 10 the best room they have- it was lovely and what a view onto the grand canal. There was nothing not to like- charming and lovely breakfast served in your room. The staff were delightful and very helpful.

This must be the cheapest grand canal view in Venice, but a beautiful one. Small family hotel, clean, friendly and in the heart of Venice. Even shared bathroom spotless and only to be shared with two other rooms. Very good connections everywhere including the airport.

This is a charming hotel right on the canal. The location, right next to the Academia Bridge, was perfect for accessing the vaperetto and seeing all of the sights of Venice. I visited in September with my mother, who has been a repeat guest of The Galleria for many years. Our room had a view of the canal and was... More

Lovely old hotel right on the canal. You can see Accademia Bridge from the window and watch the world go by. Bedrooms are small with very little room on either side of the bed, but the bathroom was clean. Lovely continental breakfast in the morning and biscuits in the hall during the day for a snack.

As mentioned in T.A. reviews, this hotel has great views. The housekeeper was kind enough to rush making up our room when we arrived a bit early. We had a corner twin bed room JUST off the Academia bridge so had lovely views of the bridge and Grand Canal though we had to shut shutters at night as the bridge... More

This hotel is in a good location - by the academia bridge. Easy to walk to sites if you're tired of cramming into the water taxis. You are paying for the location and not the quality of the room. The bathroom was nice, but our room (#2) had a very unpleasant smell and we were told it was from the... More

We stayed at this hotel during the heatwave in July 2015. The room itself was clean, cozy, and decorated in classic Venetian style. Our room was just behind the front desk, and the window opened up to the street, with a view of the Accademia bridge. There was a ceiling fan in the room, but it didn't help much to... More

Bottom line was to find a hotel room with a window opening onto the Grand Canal, at the best possible price - and we got exactly what we wanted. Nothing fancy. Just perfect. And the amount you pay soon becomes a minor detail to the pleasure of having a grandstand view of the Grand Canal. The bed in Room 7... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
