Bear in mind this is a one-star hotel and should be evaluated accordingly. Location: very good, on the Grand Canal, by the Accademia bridge, 10 minutes or less to Piazza San Marco by vaporetto or a 15-20 minutes pleasant walk. No elevator. Font-desk and rooms are located on the 1st floor. We had a very comfortable double bed with little... More

Just ten rooms in a characterful old hotel right on the Grand Canal by the Accademia Bridge - excellent location for exploring Venice on foot or from adjacent vaporetto and gondola stops, in the lovely (not too touristy) Dusoduro sestriere close to local bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. Friendly and helpful service from the owners and Albert the night watchman.... More

Hotel galleria is located on the side of the Accademia of Venice, in the South East part of the city. It is very well connected both on a boat and a road level both to San Marco and the city station (ferrovia). The personnel was very kind, attentive and social and brought us breakfast every morning in the room in... More

This is a great little hotel. The staff were courteous, helpful with figuring out the wifi password (which seemed to be 4,000 random numbers), and it was well-situated near the Accademia Bridge, right be a vaporetto stop. The highlight, however, was the breakfast: perfect amount of food and coffee for loading up in the morning for a day of getting... More

This is a great little boutique hotel next to the Galleria Academia and the Grand Canal. It's not posh but it is charming, quirky and the staff were very welcoming with great tips about local restaurants. It was a wonderful surprise to be served breakfast in your room on a traditional silver tea service. The best fresh warm croissants I've... More

Try this hotel to feel like a local Venetians. Fantastic view of Grand Canal by your window. The breakfast served was marvelous. The room is small but the location is great. You can just take a gondola ride just outside the hotel next to Academia bridge.

Charming, Quirky, Right on the Grand Canal You know who you are. If you think you might like a charming, quirky, somewhat down-in-the-heel hotel in a superb location directly on the Grand Canal, with a lovely breakfast served in your room, friendly owners and a low price, this is the hotel for you. It’s in an easy-to-walk neighborhood—just steps from... More

My wife and I recently spent a night at the Galleria. We chose the hotel based on favorable reviews in Tripadvisor and it's reasonable (for Venice) price per night. Other reviews have preferred to the hotel as small and charming. We would choose the words run down and decrepit. Our room (8) was supposed to be one of the largest... More

Interesting review sir, we think that it's clear that the Galleria is a one star hotel but sometimes we realize that for some people it's not. You have been a bit too negative, too easy for us say that the day before some other guest said that the mattresses were perfect. Interesting the climbing thing, never heard in 20 years…... More

Dorsoduro is a great place to stay in Venice. Hotel Galleria is right on the Grand Canal, for a nice view and easy access to Academia and charming areas to walk, dine and shop. I would definitely recommend this area over the crowded tourist San Marco area. Breakfast was delicious. Room was small, but met our needs. Staff is friendly... More

I, too, found this little gem through Rick Steve's guide. It was a wonderful stay. Traveling solo, I enjoyed having a small but quaint room with large windows that opened directly on to the Grand Canal with a view of Accademia bridge and the museum! The owners and their staff were wonderful. The shared bathroom for my single was down... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
