This hotel is superb. We loved everything about it. It has a nice, cozy feel to it. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They made us feel at home right away. Each staff member does an amazing job in remembering faces, and even what room number you're in. A very clean hotel. Very small showers, but easy to get... More

Family stay including child aged 8. Beautiful old residence charming and historic. Tucked away behind the street literally 2min from St Marks square yet in a world gone by. Tiny alley way entrance silent and homely with superb staff and service. Lovely relaxing courtyard with flowers and birds (and very determined pigeons! :-) ) All the staff were so friendly... More

Hotel Flora is a quaint, quiet hotel with a beautiful courtyard and very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was extensive and delicious. The hotel's location is excellent, being in the heart of the city with high-end shopping and walking distance to major sites, but off the beaten path, so you are able... More

We stayed four nights at Hotel Flora to start our Italy trip. The hotel is in a quiet location off a high end shopping street. The staff is what makes this place special. We particularly enjoyed Vinicio, the bartender. He took great care of us each evening and was a lot of fun. The desk staff was equally terrific, with... More

This hotel is tucked away but right off the main street. The room looked down on a courtyard full of trees and flowers. The service is fantastic with emails from the concierge in advance of your trip. Great breakfast with eggs, pancakes, breads, deli...Rooms are small of course like all in Venice, but with high ceilings and large windows it... More

The Hotel Flora is a quiet, hidden gem in the heart of San Marco. Would definitely stay here again and again. The staff was very warm and welcoming. They had a great breakfast buffet. It was less than a five minute walk to San Marco Piazza. Giovanni and Sergio at the front desk were very informative and helpful. Stay here... More

It's only now that I am back home and have taken a few moments to read the "poor" and "terrible" ratings previously posted, I can say, sadly, those ratings are justified. The first room we were in was simply inadequate, and after we insisted adamantly enough, we were moved to a better room - not a wonderful room, just a... More

Dear Madam, First, let us tell you that we feel relieved that you only used the latin phrase “caveat emptor” because it is still better than “ic sunt leones”. There is still hope for our property then. Your review is one of the most difficult to reply to because it is an “expressive” review, very general in the content and... More

Everything about the location, very near to Piazza San Marco, as well the price of a room are reasons to stay here. However the Flora lacks the charm its advertising and a friend's recommendation indicated we would find. The people at the front desk say all the right things; but we had the sense they were merely rehearsed and said... More

I booked last minute during Carnivale and got a great deal. My room was TINY, but perfectly fine. The hotel is charming and the bartender very sweet. The location is perfect, 5 minutes walk to St. Marco. This is not a fancy hotel. It's a quiet, quaint, tucked away, affordable option.

Wow. What a little gem hidden away down a small alley way, not too far from St Marks Square but far away enough to not to be disturbed by the tourist noise. Also reasonable room rates. Book direct for best rates. Stayed in two rooms, both of which were very good. However, if you are a big person the shower... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
