Just finished a one night stay here with 2 of my friends. Hotel is 5-10 minutes walk from the train station so it was an ideal location for us. We dealt with two different women at the hotel and they were both lovely and friendly. Air con in the room was an absolute life saver. The beds were comfortable and... More

We booked two beds in the hotel and were instead given the independent apartment across the street as the hotel was "closed". There was no cell service in the apartment at all, and the wifi did not reach. Whenever housekeeping came, they would open all windows, allowing mosquitoes and bugs in the room even after we closed them. They insisted... More

Looking for hotels in Venice we finally booked doge hotel. tiny with no elevator too cheap with breakfast,in a quite central but not crowded place. Fortunately with that cheap price we had booked a room with bathroom. With our GPS was too easy for us to find it, the ladies in the front desk very frindly but they don't speak... More

Venice is an expensive place to stay and travelling on business on a budget I found this little hotel for a short stay. It looked good on the web, but I was a bit disappointed when I got there. The receptionist when I arrived spoke no English at all (though I shouldnt really complain - I was in Italy after... More

They rejected my hrs-reservation and wanted to charge a higher price. I called hrs, but they where not able to intervene, because they are no longer working with this place. The personal at the reception is very unfriendly. And if you still want to stay here, don´t think about coming here with heavy luggage, the steep stairs will kill you!

We stayed here one night prior to boarding our ship for a cruise. The Staff did not understand English, but got a gentleman outside the restaurant next door to interpret for us. The rooms were sparcely furnished and very plain, but the main thing we cared about was that it was clean and the A/C (real A/C) worked beautifully, so... More

Our family enjoyed a wonderful trip to Venice and tried to overlook the less than stellar condition of Albergo Doge. Our family of 5 stayed on the top floor which is similar to an attic with small bathroom. There was space to spread out, but carpet was dingy & walls in need of paint. My parents had a nice sized... Many problems. First; they lost my reservation. I booked through hotel.com and Doge lost my reservation. I had two confirmation emails but the man at the desk looked like hed never seen hotel.com or email or a confirmation printout. Second, the price. I was promised 90 euro a night, they charged me 120. This hotel has made my stay in... More

A very good choice for a short (up to 4 days) stay in Venice. Good location, from the airport you can get the bus and come in Piazzale Roma (bus terminal); than or You get the public boat and You get off in Riva di Biasio , the hotel is behind of this stop. Or you can try to arrived... More

I stayed at this hotel last week for 2 nights. I have re-read Kittyfloss's post of 21 July and I fully agree with that review. Doge Hotel is comfortable, clean and inexpensive by Venetian standards. It is certainly a small property and rooms correspondingly small but quite ok for a solo traveller or a couple. Families would possibly struggle with... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
