We stayed in this lovely hotel at the end of 7 weeks touring Europe. As a couple of over 60's, we were looking for a relaxing stay before our journey home. What a great hotel! We were given a nice cool juice on our arrival on a hot day. The hotel is a cool haven from the humidity outside. I... More

We had booked to stay in an apartment run by the hotel and I messed up the dates. The staff at the hotel were so lovely about sorting us out a place to stay and giving us a large discount which they did not have to do. As a result we had a fantastic trip to Venice and stayed in... More

This year this is the first time I visited Venice. Stayed in Hotel da Bruno. It is very nice hotel and very nice staffs, they always smile and help the travelers, who always got lost in the ruelles of Venice. The room is very clean and the decoration is typical old italian style. There is a living room and some... More

The staff at this hotel.. they are amazing. Very kind, friendly and puts in alot of effort. We did not actually book a room in their hotel, but needed some help and had approached the guys at reception and they were most helpful.. even though they were really busy and helping / serving guests, they only told us to wait... After a very long hot transfer from the airport we arrived in San Marco. 2 adults 2 teenagers lugging our suitcases through the narrow streets in 36 degree heat it was such a relief to arrive at Hotel da Bruno. Check in was pre booked and very easy. The porter gave us each cold fresh juice and carried our bags... More

The hotel is located in a beautiful part of Venice and styled in an old style feeling, creating a historical atmosphere. The personnel are very kind and explain tours and give advice on key locations to visit. The breakfast is simply perfect with a range of different choices. Next door is a shop full of delicious Italian ice cream, wich... More

Lovely welcome from Hotel da Bruno, friendly staff (think family run), peaceful, air conditioned, clean. Walking distance to all the major sites, we were really surprised as we expected to be on a boat all the time but we were never more than 5 - 10 mins walk from where we needed to be. Breakfast was brilliant, one of the... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
