I was in Venice with my wife for La Biennale during the first week of May. I was in Venice many times before but I stayed in other Hotels. A friend of mine suggested Casa Verardo and I booked there for 4 days. Well, what an amazing discovery! Casa Verardo is a gem and an island of tranquillity, sobriety and... More

The hotel states that all its standard double rooms are 19 sq.mts. We booked a room in May 2015, and were given a room which was hardly 9 sq.mts. We had to stay in the pigeon hole for 3 nights. When we complained through booking.com, the management was adamant that all their rooms ARE 19 sq.mts ! And booking.com did... More

Dear Sir, thank you for your feedback. Standard double rooms are regular size. Please consider that you booked a queen size bed standard double room for two people but you showed up in more than two people expecting to be accomodated all together in the same queen size bed. I think this is because you found the room too small... More

First, this is a lovely hotel situated in a perfect location. It is a beautifully converted 16th century palace. You know you are in Venice the moment you walk in. The charm of Venetian furnishings are everywhere. There are two well appointed typical Venitian courtyards and the Casa Verardo is located on a canal. We had the pleasure of staying... More

Well, Venice swamp with art lovers during the Art Biennial, is not a place to be if you are not one of the crowd! With a good few million tourists from May to end of October attending various shows and openings, finding a comfortable and reasonably priced hotel may be just a big luck! Well, with a help of a... This was one of our most favorite hotels we experienced in Italy. Such a beautiful building and the rooms were gorgeous, small but gorgeous! My husband and I followed the very helpful instructions on their website to get from the water bus stop to the Hotel. Its a short walk but beware of one or two bridges you must haul... More

Good price and it was close to everything. I stayed at this hotel for one week my mother and I and we had great time in Venice. Our room was located 2 minutes walk from the main building where we had our free breakfast every morning. Room was cleaned by their staff every day and that's how we like it... More

The main Hotel looked nice, and was greeted straight away by a very welcoming receptionist and lovely dog! Was disappointed to find that the rooms was not in the main hotel, which this did not state anywhere on the website. We was given the impression that it would all be under one roof! Needless to say we eventually found the... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
