We stayed in room 210 which was decent enough with a queen bed, a twin, and small, but updated bathroom with nice shower. The beds, as in most places we stayed, were quite springy and uncomfortable, but we were so tired from the humidity and the wine that it didn't matter. The breakfast was the most comprehensive we'd had in... More

After an interesting venture off a cruise ship in Venice, we were very pleasantly surprised and pleased with the location of this hotel. It is close to the water taxi and bus stands, St. Mark's Square, and the Basilica and the Doge's Palace. Because it seemed so convenient I actually counted the steps from the grand canal. It was only... More

There were four of us traveling - my husband, myself and our two young adult daughters. We arrived at the hotel very late - about 1:30 am - and were pleasantly surprised to learn we had the attic room on the top floor - Room M - which included a huge bathroom as well as an outdoor deck. The elevator... More

We picked this hotel knowing we would have a small room. However it is so close to everything we didn't care! Literally around the corner from the vaparetto so easy to get to. However, get directions before you get there, the street is not on most maps you get. The room was very small, but we expected that, but small... More

We arrived at the hotel a day late as our flight was cancelled. Great location, nice rooms. The staff we found to be not very friendly. Never asked us if we needed any recommendations, never really spoke more than a few words to us.

Easy access from San Zaccaria vaporetto stop, on a small, quiet courtyard. Close to St. Mark's square, restaurants, and shops. Staff helpful, good breakfast. Our group of six needed 3 rooms and limited availability required that one was Superior, Deluxe. It was very spacious, with lots of room to move about and two large lounge chairs. If you're seeking space,... More

We stayed here for 4 nights in May. Chose hotel based on Rick Steeves Italy book. Got 10 % discount by paying cash on arrival. Booked a double standard room which, according to the website came with a view. Not so. We were put in a room outside the main hotel, off the small courtyard, with a separate entrance. The... More

My husband and I booked this room based on it's location to St. Marks Square. It was an easy walk from the water taxi to the hotel. I think we got lucky to find it as quickly as we did as it is difficult to navigate the walkways in Venice. It was an easy walk to the Square. The hotel... More

We booked a "superior" room, which provided more space, for three nights, beginning on May 18th. The size of the room was good, but it would have been nice to have a chair or two instead of an extra single bed. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The location is excellent. We took a water taxi which worked out... More

The hotel is conveniently located near the St mark's Square. The staff was friendly and helpful. the rooms were very expensive considering the quality. Yes the high cost is related to the nearness of the water and the St marks Square. The Breakfast was one of the better ones we experienced in the 3 week Italy tour.

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
