This restaurant is off the beaten path. It feels like one may be going the wrong way, but after turning a few corners, one will see the lamp post. You enter into another world! The restaurant is set within an ivy covered-trestle surrounded by gardens. I felt like we were the only tourists there and that we were dining in... More

My second visit – which surely speaks volumes…the hotel is still as good as ever. However, this hotel is not for everyone, but you like original artwork in your room, FABULOUS arbours to sit under in Summer whilst enjoying your lunch – there are just 2 reasons why you should stay here….not to mention its close to “The Accademia” and... I first stayed here in 1974 and had not since returned. Friends I'd recommended it to have returned regularly over the intervening 40 years & continue to love it. This was my first return, treating grown-up daughter to a long-promised trip. It seems remarkably unchanged, and was just what we were hoping for. A bit shabby, a bit disorganised. But... More

Get off the beaten path a tad and head south of Saint Marks. I've been to Venice a few times and this was the best deal and the most authentic Venice has ever felt. We got a double room with a small balcony which came with a sink basin in the room. For the shower and bathroom you nipped two... More

Housekeeper the best thing about this hotel. She was attentive and would bring us whatever we wanted. In the past it was guests like Yoko Ono the walls are jammed with art work from the art students in the area. The management is more interested in their restaurant which is wonderful. Breakfast is an additional cost but adequate with cereal... More

The location of this hotel is good, away from the overcrowded St Mark`s etc, but alongside one of the lesser canals and near some good restaurants. The welcome was good but our room was poorly-maintained and dingy - we had to change rooms as the lavatory seat came apart! Any decent cleaner would have seen this and notified the owners. Wifi... More

We followed directions to this classic locanda given in J.G.Links's brilliant guidebook on Venice. After a hot walk exploring the Dorsoduro area we melted into the shady garden of the restaurant and had a truly memorable lunch. We were late but no one turned us away, the chef stayed a bit longer, we were accommodating in what we chose and... More

Travelling on my own I found locanda montin both really convenient and welcoming. Only 20 mins walk from the station yet in the heart of the Dorsoduro, and 5 mins from the waterbus stop gives you access to all the sights. Garden restaurant is lovely and check out the night before I left was very easy. Left the key in... More

Where does one start! A bit of a contradiction in some ways. Brilliant location on a little side street/canal. Lovely light rooms, comfy beds; all very clean. We ate at the hotel restaurant on our first night purely out of convenience. The food was fantastic, however the service was slow and unfriendly and there is very little atmosphere. On our... More

Stayed here when a couple of other options were booked. Best feature is the attached restaurant, which is very convenient with kids. Restaurant was good - although they were not overly friendly until they discovered we were staying at the locanda. The room met the bare minimum for being acceptable, and when we checked out the innkeeper "mistakenly" overcharged us... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
