This was a small restaurant off a side canal in Venice. The food was a nice change of pace, with things on the menu ranging from traditional Italian to baked gnocchi with asparagus and cheese. The patio in the back of the restaurant was magnificent. I ordered the spaghetti and clams which was delicious.

Amazing place and food experience!! Love love the trellis garden overhead and my sepia in ink with polenta was to die for. Not really hard to find but back in an area off the canal. Maybe a five min walk from the large canal. Very near cruise ship terminal and we walked there in about 25 min from St Marks.... More

The Garden restaurant had been recommended by a friend who was there 15 years ago, it was lovely and delicious. My two friends and I were on our way home from a biking trip in Croatia, and spent our last night in Venice.

Close to everything, but off the beaten track. Nice welcome, good food, clean rooms, quiet and cosy. Lovely dinner, with local food especially seafood. Family owned with history of previous artists lining the walls. Really something different. Why stay anywhere else in Venice?

This restaurant is off the beaten path. It feels like one may be going the wrong way, but after turning a few corners, one will see the lamp post. You enter into another world! The restaurant is set within an ivy covered-trestle surrounded by gardens. I felt like we were the only tourists there and that we were dining in... More

My second visit – which surely speaks volumes…the hotel is still as good as ever. However, this hotel is not for everyone, but you like original artwork in your room, FABULOUS arbours to sit under in Summer whilst enjoying your lunch – there are just 2 reasons why you should stay here….not to mention its close to “The Accademia” and... I first stayed here in 1974 and had not since returned. Friends I'd recommended it to have returned regularly over the intervening 40 years & continue to love it. This was my first return, treating grown-up daughter to a long-promised trip. It seems remarkably unchanged, and was just what we were hoping for. A bit shabby, a bit disorganised. But... More

Get off the beaten path a tad and head south of Saint Marks. I've been to Venice a few times and this was the best deal and the most authentic Venice has ever felt. We got a double room with a small balcony which came with a sink basin in the room. For the shower and bathroom you nipped two... More

Housekeeper the best thing about this hotel. She was attentive and would bring us whatever we wanted. In the past it was guests like Yoko Ono the walls are jammed with art work from the art students in the area. The management is more interested in their restaurant which is wonderful. Breakfast is an additional cost but adequate with cereal... More

The location of this hotel is good, away from the overcrowded St Mark`s etc, but alongside one of the lesser canals and near some good restaurants. The welcome was good but our room was poorly-maintained and dingy - we had to change rooms as the lavatory seat came apart! Any decent cleaner would have seen this and notified the owners. Wifi... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
