At first we thought the Al Piave is a little quirky. There were things that made us smile (the Escher-esque staircases, the funny little elevator, the ducks with galoshes), but we quickly fell in love with the charm. First of all (Although you couldn't prove it by our first attempt to reach the hotel), the Al Piave is in a... More

I have been stayed in Al Piave again as I did 3 years ago. Just to confirm from the beginning - the hotel is still excellent. The hotel still have exceptional service, the cleanest rooms and a hotel as a whole, the best breakfast, the perfect Receptionist, so everything in this hotel was just at it's best. That is the... Hotel Al Piave was a delightful hotel in Venice. The staff was both cheerful and helpful. The family takes pride in their hotel and it shows. The room met our expectations clean and comfortable. The hotel is located between the Rialto Bridge and San Marco square so it was close to everything. Breakfast was wonderful.

We are staying here for our honeymoon and they received us with a bottle of champagne. The concierge was extremely nice and very helpful. The room is quite comfortable and it has all the amenities needed. It's centrally located but away from noisy crowds. Definitely a hidden gem.

I really liked this place-- well appointed rooms in a lovely old building down a quiet street. I take it that lower rooms have some street noise, and we had some squeaky gull noise near the roofline, but nothing to really complain about. Breakfast was hearty and the woman who serves breakfast could not be sweeter. Building is NOT hard... More

The service at the hotel was very good and the staff was friendly. The room was cute but not huge. They included a surprise bottle of prosecco for our first anniversary which was very sweet. The location was great and I definitely recommend it to other travelers. Mention Rick Steves for an additional discount.

Very pleasant stay at Hotel Al Piave. The staff was helpful, the room was nice and clean and the location is very good even it was not easy to find (hint: print a detailed map of the area or get one). The breakfast was good as well.

This is a very well positioned hotel in a charming and relatively quiet location but with enough life to give the area a bit of a buzz. It's close to many attractions and the vaporetto but nicely tucked away. Overall, it's a great solution for a city with many overpriced and disappointing hotels. This one does the job nicely.

This was a wonderful hotel close enough to San Marco Square without being noisy. I think the room we stayed in was recently renovated. New bathroom fixtures and new beds. Very clean, great breakfast, outstanding customer service from the desk clerk to the wait staff! About 15 minute walk from San Zaccaria water taxi stop. Bed was the most comfortable... More

Hotel Al Piave was comfortable, cozy and clean. The breakfast was fresh and the service outstanding. The family of the Hotel was very friendly and extremely accommodating. We did rent one of the Family Suites (5 adults) and it worked out well. The location had great access to Piazza San Marco. A little tricky to find from the water taxi... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
