Good breakfast. Near St. Marks! The room is of average size compared to similar hotels. Complete bath amenities are available. There is a bridge along the way which is good for taking photographs. The location is near shops and restaurants. The video on how to find the hotel which is available on their website is very helpful. You must watch... More

What makes the Hotel Al Piave an excellent stay in Venice is its staff. They are dedicated to the quality of the guest experience in a way that is extraordinary. When our luggage was delayed for two days, the staff called multiple times a day unprompted to check on the status of our bags. The rooms are clean and comfortable... More

We stayed at this hotel for three nights this month and it was wonderful. The front desk staff were beyond helpful. We were in Venice two days before we received our luggage. They helped us stay in touch with the airport regarding our luggage. Breakfast at the hotel was a good way to start the day. We would definitely stay... More

This is a fine hotel if you want to be near St. Mark's. The staff was helpful, and the breakfasts were fine. We were there in June but did not feel crowded in the hotel. Rooms were clean and well appointed; similar to other hotels at this level in which we stayed in Italy.

The Al Piave is well located and has a friendly staff, but if you want running water, consider staying elsewhere. On the morning we checked out of room 105, the shower water was only scalding and 30 minutes later only freezing and then there was no more shower water at all. Then the toilet wouldn't flush and then the sink... More

Technical problems may occur and unfortunaly the waterpump stopped working in the early morning. We DID OUR BEST to solve the problem and in two hours the water started working again. The guests that were in a hurry were offered to take a shower in the free rooms. In our opinion , an accident like this, that was promptly solved,... More

My husband and I finished our Italy trip in Venice. This was our last hotel of the trip. It was beautiful. It was located on a fairly busy, narrow street in Venice. I couldn't begin to tell you what we were close to because I was constantly lost! I know that everything, once you knew where you were going, is... More

Warm and friendly family run hotel. Room was cozy, clean and nicely furnished with an updated bathroom. Excellent breakfast (great coffee) served by friendly English speaking staff. Everyone was polite and helpful and gave great recommendations. Special thanks to Claudio for his insights into life in Venice.

We stayed here after looking at many possible places. Friends of ours had stayed here last year and highly recommended it. They were right on. This hotel is efficient and well-run. They took care of our every need. They have a beautiful breakfast spread that got us going every morning. The location near St. Mark's is ideal - just a... More

Every thing was in close walking distance to city centre. Rooms very clean and spacious. Staff in lobby was always available and helpful to us. Piazza's, gondola's and restaurants as well as shopping all very close by. A wonderful experience. John & Laurie, Vancouver, Canada

We began our six week trip in Venice and ended in Venice. None of the very fine hotels we enjoyed throughout Italy approached Al Piave's overall thorough excellence. Facilities, perfect. Quality air conditioning, great showers, just-right beds. Amenities, perfect. Great location, secluded neighborhood, yet a ten minutes stroll to both Rialto and San Marco. Returning at the end of our... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
