We recently stayed two nights at San Samuele and really enjoyed it. The room was fairly small, but clean and nicely furnished, and we had two lovely windows with views of the street. Location was excellent, we could walk to everything very easily, and it was also close to a vaporetto stop. The staff were all very friendly and helpful,... More

This is a classic Venice hotel in a good, off the beaten path location. We felt like we were staying with the locals rather than in the more crowded, touristy areas. The staff was friendly and helpful with our questions. There is a small cafe right outside and also a small market to buy water and snacks. The room and... More

This is an authentic hotel in a good location in Venice. The facilities are basic, but it is a charming hotel with friendly staff. The location is perfect for strolling out and exploring all the sites Venice has to offer. There are nearby cafe's and restaurants. There is no a/c so you may need to have the window open for... We were originally wanting to stay at a hostel during our stay in Venice, but found this hotel was actually cheaper and in a much better location than any hostels available. Our flight was delayed 5 hours and we arrived at the hotel a little past 12 am. They had someone waiting for us (they do not have 24 hour... More

Had stayed here for few days and enjoyed the stay. Though was skeptical at first sight, it turn out to be good choice. It is nothing great as such but a good place and good value for money. Recommended. Huzayf.

This hotel is in a good location for exploring Venice. It was a very nice, but basic place to stay. I was in a room with a shared bathroom, but never actually had to wait to use it. This hotel provides no breakfast, but there is a small cafe very near by serving the usual suspects and a nice place... More

Looking for accommodation in Venice sent us into a spiral of despair, even for mid-April (we started looking in mid-March). Fortunately, we spotted a recommendation for this place in a Conde Nast article online and decided to give it a try. We are glad we did! We had booked an "economic" room with shared bathroom, but they upgraded us on... More

We just wanted a base to stay for 3 nights while we explored Venice and it was perfect. Comfortable big bed, clean, good shower, very friendly helpful and welcoming hosts. Lovely location on a quiet square with a good bar nearby, but only one calle off the bigger squares. Ideally located for all main attractions. We loved it and will... More

We were told we could check in early but when we arrived we were told to come at 3 so we had to take all our luggage and find a place to eat and spend time until we could get in our room. We were told our room would have a view of the main street and it was of... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
