Location a stone's throw from the vaparetto stop was amazing, and proximity to St Marks Square was also great. View from our 2nd floor family room was beautiful and the room itself was comfortable for a family of 4. Breakfast with a view was also very good quality, and we would highly recommend this hotel.

This is a very small hotel and quite old, but the location is absolutely stunning... We had the room with the view and it was just perfect... Furniture is very old and worn out somehow, but very clean. You just open the window and the furniture will not bother you at all...! The hotel arranged for us our pick up... More

Absolutely delicious dinner with fantastic service and beautiful wine. Can't rate it high enough! The waiters were very accommodating with our English speaking ignorance and were very helpful assisting with our wine and dinner selections. Will definitely recommend and would love to come here again :)

Fantastic location on the water close to St Marks Square. Very convenient when coming from the airport with luggage as it is only a short walk from the ferry stop. The hotel and rooms are very clean and comfortable and staff are friendly and helpful. We did not have one of the best rooms as we were at the back... More

We had one of the most enjoyable meals here during our stay in Venice, even though the italian waiter got our order wrong, he forgot my wife's main course. Notable dishes were the oyster, very fresh, seabass fillets and pasta were good too. Desserts were delicious. I have to say that the two Filipino waiters provided us with the best... More

The hotel is very clean and the staff polite but not as personable as the usual Italian hotel. The hotel is on the water and visitors from tours are constantly passing by the hotel. The breakfast is very basic and does not reflect the quality we received in the in the evening when we ate in the dinning area.

Michael, the owner or manager couldn't have been more helpful. We arrived early for our cruise ship and our room wasn't ready yet. He opened the restaurant and gave us coffee and food to snack on. This hotel is on the main walkway and only about a block away from St Mark's Basilica. Our room was good size for a... More

Fantastic location and friendly staff. Breakfast was very basic, not hot choices. Room was traditional Venetian style, however a little tired looking. No lift, however they do offer to take cases to rooms. Beds super comfy- had booked for a lagoon suite, but was asked by the hotel if would swap to another room, for a reduction in rate. Regret... Dear Mrs. Allison, thank you for choosing our hotel and for writing a review about your stay at our hotel. Just back from 4 wonderful nights stay at this hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. We did book the 4th floor with views over end of Grand Canal and opening the shutters first thing in morning to see the hussle and bussle of what was going on all around was wonderful. The hotel itself (or Pensione) as it should... More

Hotel Wildner has a great location on Grand Canal with fantastic views of the lagoon. It's only three blocks from San Marco plaza and docks for the various water buses including the blue line are all within a block. The room is pretty much what you would expect for a moderately priced room in Venice. We had a lagoon view... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
