Hotel (Pensione) Wildner: Excellent location, on the waterfront 200 yards east of St. Marco piazza. Waterbus and private taxi dock just in front, no bridges to cross. Lagoon facing rooms are wonderful, great views of water with bustling boat activity and daily cruise ship arrival and departure. Good size room with king size bed and sofa. Large enough bathroom with... More

My husband and I recently had the great pleasure of staying at the Wildner for the 6th time. This professionally run hotel welcomes you with beautifully decorated, comfortable rooms and a friendly, helpful staff. The spectacular view from our front room lingers in our minds long after our departure. The restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with a menu of... More

We have stayed here twice. It is a great location...easy to get to. Great breakfast included and wonderful restaraunt. Staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed in a room for 4 facing the lagoon. Plenty of room and beautiful view!

Excellent location easy to find across from S.Zaccaria water bus station. Nice family owned hotel. Clean, but small rooms. The hotel offered a good breakfast buffet. I would recommend this hotel to a friend planning a trip to Venice. If you’re staying in Venice get the water bus pass for the length of your stay. It’s affordable and easy.

Pleasant stay in Venice and in Pensione Wildner. They sure have nicer rooms than owers and next time I know better how to get them. So don't book a room to the backyard (Standard room) or at least from 2nd floor upward to look over the roof tops and not into the dirty and dark backyard. Then it will be... More

I do have to say the location of this hotel is great and considering that it is on the Grand Canal, right near a water taxi stop. A room with a view gives a great view of the Canal. The price is at least 1/2 of what the real hotels are. I say real hotels because, this is really a... More

Great location across from S.Zaccaria water bus station, with views of Grand Canal and steps from Piazza San Marco and Doge's Palace. Nice family run hotel, friendly staff, good rooms, TV, clean and comfortable. Free wifi. Great choice for Venice stay! No getting lost in narrow streets locating your hotel on arrival

As usual we had a great stay in this friendly family run hotel. Okay, there is no lift but we always book rooms at the top as the view is wonderful. Why pay more for 5 star luxury when this well run, clean and comfortable pensione is such good value. The location is second to none overlooking the lagoon and... More

We stayed for 4 nights at the Hotel Wildner with some friends in March. The weather was kind to us and the hotel is in a perfect position for getting around Venice. Just a few steps to the vaporetti, gondolas, Bridge of Sighs and 5 mins away from the wonderful St Mark's Square. Our room was on the top floor... More

There are less expensive hotels in Venice and there are nicer hotels in Venice. But Hotel Wildner seems to hit the sweet spot of a best view for the money. It's the same view as the Danieli but for way less cash. Definitely get a high floor lagoon view room. To wake up in the morning and gaze out at... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
