Great location across from S.Zaccaria water bus station, with views of Grand Canal and steps from Piazza San Marco and Doge's Palace. Nice family run hotel, friendly staff, good rooms, TV, clean and comfortable. Free wifi. Great choice for Venice stay! No getting lost in narrow streets locating your hotel on arrival

As usual we had a great stay in this friendly family run hotel. Okay, there is no lift but we always book rooms at the top as the view is wonderful. Why pay more for 5 star luxury when this well run, clean and comfortable pensione is such good value. The location is second to none overlooking the lagoon and... More

We stayed for 4 nights at the Hotel Wildner with some friends in March. The weather was kind to us and the hotel is in a perfect position for getting around Venice. Just a few steps to the vaporetti, gondolas, Bridge of Sighs and 5 mins away from the wonderful St Mark's Square. Our room was on the top floor... More

There are less expensive hotels in Venice and there are nicer hotels in Venice. But Hotel Wildner seems to hit the sweet spot of a best view for the money. It's the same view as the Danieli but for way less cash. Definitely get a high floor lagoon view room. To wake up in the morning and gaze out at... More

A few steps from Piazza San Marco, and at the gran canal bay. Very confortable indeed the apartments are tiny, but understandable for a historic hotel. Breakfast was great, and with a view of the Grand Canal. Prepare for the steps, as there is no elevator.

We had booked to stay at this hotel but due to a communications problem between my wife and I (I was wrong, didn't listen, should have known about other commitments etc. :) we were sadly not able to make the trip. I just wanted to post on here to say how very helpful and understanding the hotel was when I... More

We went to Venice for 2 days and stayed here. The most convenient of locations to stay in. It is bang opposite the San Zaccaria stop and can be reached by 4.1 or 5.1 from the St Lucia station. It has a beautiful verandah overlooking the lagoon and gondolas, where they have the restaurant and where the breakfast buffet is... More

We have stayed at Hotel Wildner several times. The very first was in 1969, then in the late 1990s and more recently. The Hotel is still in the same family and, over 45 years we have met three generations of the family. Updated over the years the Hotel remains a real gem with the incredibly view of San Giorgio. It... More

The location is excellent of this hotel. Staff is very helpful. The hotel has a restaurant, but it is very standard. We got a room on the first floor, and it was awful. We did not change, because, we just stayed 2 nights, but if you stay more, ask a room room on upper floor. Our room was small /but... More

200 meters from San Marco square, facing the Grand Canal. Pristine views, a stones throw away from the Bridge of Sighs and a very leisurely walk from the beautiful San Marco Square. Easily reached by the Allilaguna line as it is on one of the main stops after departing the Airport. The only thing to be weary about is that... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
