Hotel Wildner has a great location on Grand Canal with fantastic views of the lagoon. It's only three blocks from San Marco plaza and docks for the various water buses including the blue line are all within a block. The room is pretty much what you would expect for a moderately priced room in Venice. We had a lagoon view... More

We stayed here for 3 nights as a family of 4. We stayed on the top floor with a view of the grand canal and it was lovely. The room was big enough for the 4 of us, with the kids getting their own beds (camp bed and sofa bed but both comfy enough). With 3 windows it was light... More

Great location, beautiful and clean rooms, amazing view! Delicious breakfast served on the terrace. I have not tried the restaurant but heard really good feedback. I can highly recommend this charming family run hotel!

Really awful, disgusting breakfast (I would have added a star if they hadn't served breakfast at all, especially this muck). What was worse than soggy, old cornflakes was the bed bugs which left us ridden with sores. Room smelt absolutely awful, really rank. All this, and a surly reception, for the reasonsble sum of €175 per night. Please, please, please... More

This is a quaint hotel in a great spot. Right on the grand canal by the ferry terminals and gondolier base. Just down from the bridge of sighs. Its a very old building but is perfectly clean and comfortable with air conditioning and everything you need. Shower pressure is great too which was a nice surprise. Watching the cruise ships... Our daughter gave us a three day trip to Venice last week, as a thank you for her wedding, so it was a nice surprise for us. Now my wife has always wanted to visit Venice but as a tightwad london cabby, I always managed to put it off as I'd heard it's expensive there. We got the water bus... More

The quad lagoon view room worked well for our family with teens and view of lagoon was amazing! Location is steps from vaporetto stop and while our room was 5th floor US (no elevator), they brought our luggage up for us. No problem with street noise and the Air Conditioning and Wifi worked well. The room is not large but... More

We were traveling to Venice with two 5 year olds. We knew it would be expensive and difficult to get around, especially with luggage and kids. I did a lot of research on various sites and decided on this hotel. We couldn't of been happier with the room, the staff, the location, everything. Venice in the Summer is HOT! Getting... More

We stayed here with our kids and parents. The location is fantastic! Alighted at San Zaccaria vaporetto station and right in front of us is Hotel Wildner! Just a short walk to San Marco Square, actually less than 5 mins' walk. We got 2 rooms with lagoon view - highly recommended! The price we paid was minimal compared to other... More

Hotel (Pensione) Wildner: Excellent location, on the waterfront 200 yards east of St. Marco piazza. Waterbus and private taxi dock just in front, no bridges to cross. Lagoon facing rooms are wonderful, great views of water with bustling boat activity and daily cruise ship arrival and departure. Good size room with king size bed and sofa. Large enough bathroom with... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
