Where to start. We went to Venice on a flight and hotel deal. So we didn't have very high expectations of the hotel. It was an anniversary so I sent an e-mail asking for a bottle of Prosecco and some flowers to be put in the room. This was no problem for the staff and when we got to the... More

I stayed at the Pensione alone during December to check out Venice for one night and was very satisfied with my stay. Sure, the one person room was very small, but it didn't feel like it was crushing, it was just cosy and had a nice view from the balcony. The staff are super friendly, giving me great tips where... This hotel is in a great position near the academia ferry station. It is like a private house with lovely sitting rooms. As it is a bit off the main touristy area the local restaurants are very reasonably priced. The staff are helpful and the feel of the hotel is elegant and classy. Staff are lovely. When we come back... More

We stayed in Pensione Accademia from 28/12/'15 till 1/1/'16. Our room, n°29, had a superb view over the little canal outside the hotel. The room was very spacious. The bathroom was perfectly clean. Only the showerhead should have been a bit higher for a comfortable shower. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The location was ideal: in the pleasant neighbourhood Dorsoduro... More

This hotel is in such a great location right next to the Accademia and in the heart of the Dorsoduro. It is slightly set back from the Grand Canal, with views on to it but is very tranquil. It has beautiful gardens at front and back which are lovely to sit in. The people that run the hotel are delightful.... More

For the discerning traveller to La Serenissima who would wish to stay in a large but charming house and perhaps live like some Venetians of yore, what better place can there be than the Pensione Accademia? It does not have the antiseptic atmosphere associated with some so-called grand or modern hotels. Instead, here one is inspired to breathe in a... More

During the last three days of our two-week tour of Italy my wife and I were fortunate enough to stay at the Pensione Accademia in the Dorsoduro section of Venice. We had researched Venice and liked the idea that Dorsoduro was somewhat removed from the Saint Marks area but still within walking distance and home to several vaparetto stops. In... More

We stayed in room 24 which is on the third floor. There are lots of steps and the opening to get in the shower is only about 11 or 12 inches. Those are the only downsides. The view is breathtaking. The staff is very kind and helpful. Breakfast was really nice, lots of choices. This place is right on a... More

We greatly enjoyed staying here. It is conveniently located, very close to the Academy and a reasonable walk from St. Mark's Square. There are plenty of nice restaurants nearby, as well as interesting shops of all descriptions. The staff is friendly and hospitable, and the breakfast they serve is wonderful. There is a supremely comfortable lobby/lounge on the second floor,... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
