When you are negotiating the narrow, tourist-filled streets and squares of Venice Italy on a hot day, the single thought keeping you from weeping in frustration, will be thUje cool, quiet back garden of the Pensione Accademia - the Villa Marravege. Knowing that you can retreat to this idyll of old-world charm, with its complimentary cold drinks and nibbles available... More

In May, 2015, we returned to this hotel because we enjoyed it so much for our last trip in 2006. The location is ideal for those who wish to be ever so slightly out of the tourist fray. It's close enough to all the sights, but quiet and peaceful. The grounds are lovely and well-attended. The rooms are spotless with... More

My husband, two teenage sons and I stayed here for 3 nights in April and loved every minute of it. We were upgraded to a suite that was on the ground floor on the side canal, so when the water was high we had boats passing by with singing guys -- very charming. The gardens are beautiful and there are... More

This was my first visit to Venice and chose May as being the best time of the year. I stayed at the Pensione Accademia for three nights and have just returned. I had a single room (no.41) and although very small it had everything you could wish for. A comfortable bed changed freshly daily, clean towels changed every day, a... More

We stayed for several nights in two rooms (one for our kids and for us). The pensione truly is a lovely old dame. Our bathroom wasn't terrific but really a very small complaint. Our room overlooked the small canal and it could get quite noisy some nights, late into the night, with partiers. But the grounds are lovely, and the... More

Quarters are tight in Venice. The room was small but serviceable. The bathroom and small shower reminded us of a cruise ship room. Again, tight quarters! The breakfast buffet was great. They even served bacon and scrambled eggs! The only place we saw this type of breakfast in Italy during our trip. Great wifi. Please note that you will likely... More

My husband and I spent three nights here at the end of April. The hotel is easy walking distance to all the main attractions and also close to some excellent restaurants. Our room was clean and had a lovely view. The staff at Reception were extremely helpful and pleasant, offering to book tables for us at recommended restaurants. Breakfast buffet... More

We needed a hotel to spend the night in before leaving on a cruise and we made an arbitrary choice of staying at the Pensione Accademia. We booked a junior suite and were very pleased with the whole experience and would definitely go back. The location is convenient and the water taxi could drop us at the private pier right... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
