Pensione Accademia Villa Maravege is a perfect find for all that want to stay centrally in Venice (it's just across the block from Galeria Accademia) but look for a quiet place with charme as well. Pensione Accademia is an old mansion (former Russian Embassy) with lots of antique furnishing and decor. Rooms are small but come with all you need.... More

This was my second stay at Pensione Accademia and it did not disappoint. The rooms are clean, comfortable and provide a nice respite from the hectic common areas of Venice. Although the rooms and furnishings are not the newest, they are clean and in good shape. The bathrooms, although eclectic in decor, have been modernized and offer all conveniences. Our... More

We did not stayed at this hotel but wished we had. 11 others of my family members stayed there and we had a chance to view their rooms as well as the beautiful gardens and facilities. It provided free beverage, apples, and shelled peanuts near the lobby area and had a very well-decorated living room on the first floor (2nd... More

This was one of my favorite hotels we stayed at in Europe. Tucked away on a side canal, this hotel was not a very far walk to anywhere in Venice. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice and I had no complaints during my stay. I There was a nice courtyard the you could hang out... More

This was my 5th time staying at the Pensione Accademia over the many years that I have traveled to Italy, and I cannot imagine staying anywhere else. While it is very close to the Accademia bridge and vaporetto stop, it is not directly on the Grand Canal; it is on a side "street". One of its best features is a... More

Stayed for 2 nights in June for our wedding anniversary. Location: overlooking grand canal, 3 minute walk to the Accademia. Very convenient. Hotel: beautiful gardens and typical Italian frontage. Very inviting with beautiful saloon and rear gardens. Very convenient canal drop off point. Rooms: Small but well maintained. All important air conditioning works. Staff: extremely friendly.

This place was magnificent. Tucked away on the Rio SanTravaso just across the Accademia Bridge and right near the Vaparetto stop is the Pensione Accademia. Passing through the wrought iron gate you find yourself in the cozy lobby where friendly staff are at your service. Through the shady, lush courtyard are the various rooms; an oasis in the middle of... More

I just returned from my fourth stay at this lovely hotel. It is in a perfect and quiet location from which to explore the city and a refuge at the end of a busy day of sight seeing. The staff are all so friendly, welcoming and accommodating. I think of the Pensione Accademia as my "home" in Venice and would... More

When you are negotiating the narrow, tourist-filled streets and squares of Venice Italy on a hot day, the single thought keeping you from weeping in frustration, will be thUje cool, quiet back garden of the Pensione Accademia - the Villa Marravege. Knowing that you can retreat to this idyll of old-world charm, with its complimentary cold drinks and nibbles available... More

In May, 2015, we returned to this hotel because we enjoyed it so much for our last trip in 2006. The location is ideal for those who wish to be ever so slightly out of the tourist fray. It's close enough to all the sights, but quiet and peaceful. The grounds are lovely and well-attended. The rooms are spotless with... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
