We have just completed a stay at the apartment run by Locanda La Corte - it 's located close by to the hotel so you have your privacy but with the back-up of the hotel & staff if required. It is self-catering but you are welcome at the hotel for breakfast for a small charge- we didn't use this option... More

I loved this hotel....charming and wonderful service from staff at front desk. Close to everything but not in a heavy traffic area. Quaint, lovely room, etc. I would recommend to anyone! We sat at the table in lobby overlooking canal, watching gondolas going by and sipping wine. Perfect!

We booked directly with this hotel as was recommended by friends and it didn't disappoint. Hotel responded quickly to my email enquiries and sent lots of information and useful map once we had booked. Stayed here for 3 nights in early July (family of 4 - 2 kids aged 11 and 13). Really great accommodation in the canal side apartment... More

Great hotel. Very friendly staff. Got complimentary upgrade and welcome drink. Apartment was huge and clean. Hotel is very close to St. Marks square (10 min walking). Easy to get from the airport. I recommend it!

We stayed here for a few days in June. We were in Venice to see the Biennale primarily, and catch up with some artist friends staying near San Marco. The hotel is absolutely lovely: our rooms were perfect. The first had a small sitting room that was separated from the sleeping area. It meant our young son could sleep comfortably... More

Convenient location to all of the main attractions in Venice but tucked away in a quiet courtyard right on a canal. Our room was a generous size as well as the bathroom. Breakfast was very good and plentiful and you could eat in a lovely outside courtyard. Someone always at reception to help. Only negative was that WiFi wasn't strong... More

This was our first stay in venice and we followed the recommendation of a travel guide to stay at Locanda la Corte. We did not regret - the hotel is managed well and the service is excellent. So many ratings of the location from previous visitors, so we make it short: quiet (apart from the never disturbing boat traffic, if... More

Our whole family of ten stayed in this great hotel recently in June. We rented two quadruple rooms and one double room for several nights. Mark, at the reception, was so very nice and accommodating, as was Marco. I gave four stars instead of five because of the rudeness and uncaring attitude of the manager. My husband's and my room... We were fortunate to stay at Locanda for our four night visit to Venice. We could not have chosen better. Our large and well appointed room had two generous windows overlooking a canal below, and offered welcoming comfort. Marco and his team ensure that the hotel runs to perfection, with attention to detail. The courtyard where breakfast is served is... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
