We spent 3 nights at Hotel Ovidius and it was lovely. When we arrived, Lucia was on reception and she was brilliant. We arrived early and our room wasn't ready but she asked if we would like to take an upgrade instead. She let us go have a look at both rooms and we instantly fell in love with the... More

We stayed here for my 50th birthday trip and couldn't have picked a better location -right on the Grand Canal by the Rialto Bridge Easy walk to all tourist attractions. Lovely friendly staff who were really helpful. Room was fine - well worth the price we paid which included buffet breakfast. This is a small hotel and is exactly what... More

Hotel Ovidius is a decent 3-star hotel, nothing more and nothing less. It is very conveniently centrally located close to the Rialto bridge. It is fairly priced for Venician standards and its rooms are quite neat and clean. The hotel is situated in a back street close to the Grand Canal of Venice. Some of the more deluxe rooms in... Small hotel not well conserved. The room for 3 people is extremely small, stuffy and not clean, special the, Carpet (if you have powder alergy, forget it). Wi fii does not work in the apartament. Double bed is not real but 2 single beds together. If you to sleep close to your couple, it is not comfortable. Linen is "hard".... More

Myself, husband and parents have just returned from a visit to Venice where we stayed in this hotel. The location was fantastic with a handful of restaurants just outside, the alley lead to more shops restaurants. St marks square is just a small walk away and the view of the Rialto bridge is amazing from the hotel balcony. Hotel staff very... More

This was a very nice hotel and great location. They offered free breakfast which was nice but wifi was not free. The beds and pillows really need to be updated, beds were extremely uncomfortable and pillows need to be replaced. Shower is quite small also. Very clean hotel and friendly staff.

Located close to the steps of the Rialto bridge, with restaurants, gondola and shops within walking distance. Fantastic little hotel, just spend a 7 night stay with them. The staff looked after us so well, and went out of there way to help us from trips, water bus passes and recommending a fantastic restaurant. If your able to take a... More

Rooms dated, balcony great location to watch the world go by. Staff very helpful and went the extra mile. Would stay there again, pricey but you are in the center of Venice. Near the Rialto bridge and easy to find.

Location is excellent, close to everything. You would think that for the price paid would get some thing better. Rooms are old and very, very small. Don't be fooled by the pictures because you will get shocked. You get a small tv with very limited local channels. Bathroom is ok. Our bathroom had a tub/jacuzzi you had to literally climb over... We had a great room with a canal view. Opened the windows a lot. We loved our room and view. The breakfast was nice and all we needed to begin our day. We were in room 101 which was located just off a nice sitting area. The front desk was helpful and answered all our questions and needs. The only... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
