Location of the hotel is perfect. It is right next to the Rialto Bridge overlooking the Grand Canal. The tea room/ breakfast room overlooks the grand canal and in the evening gives you unmatched views of the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge. If you are coming from the Santa Lucia railway station then it is better to get off at... More

Excellent location- access to everything. Fabulous views- we had double canal view. Good-sized room. As per other reviews, breakfast quite limited and not enough tables for the number of guests. All in all good experience. Decor is mixture of old and 50s/ 60s but not offensive--but would not appeal to those looking for everything 'just so' or modern decor---we liked... More

My partner and I visited venice for the 1st time as it's somewhere I have always wanted to go. We arrived on the fri for 3 nights and were not disappointed! Our hotel was located nxt to the rialto bridge so we were very central. Our room was lovely and could use the viranda any time day or night overlooking... More

We requested a canal view room. Loved it. Beautiful view. Large room. I suppose we paid a little more for it...but if u are going to venice...put out a little extra for what you want. Staff was courteous. Location was great. View was amazing. Breakfast was ok...but in fairness, we are not really breakfast people. I would recommend this hotel...especially... More

Enjoyed a 3 night stay here and absolutely loved it. The staff were most welcoming and very helpful with directions and general advice. Our room was a very decent size (even though it was a standard room). We were impressed with the bathroom - choice of waterfall or power shower plus a jacuzzi bath! The air con thankfully worked well... More

If I could sum up my experience at this place I would say mediocre. The only thing they have going for themselves is the location and perhaps the view if you get an upgrade room or decide to try the stale breakfast they provide. The staff seems quite moody. You may be greeted with a smile as you may have... More

We stayed in the Locanda Ovidius from 17th-22nd June 2015 It was a last minute booking, booked through Easyjet holidays to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. We picked the hotel as it was near Rialto Bridge and we had visited Venice before and knew this would be a good area to stay. We arrived late in the evening, and took the... More

Tucked away on a side street - yet facing the Grand Canal, this quaint small hotel has great potential, but misses the mark in some important ways. The real challenge was our being accustomed to basic customer service and a functioning facility. I asked on two successive days for light bulbs to be replaced in our dark bathroom (and then,... Myself, and my Wife stopped here for 3 nights. On our arrival we were greeted by two staff, who could not be helpful enough. They told us of where to go in Venice and what to avoid, and other general tips. We boomed into a superior room(206) which was clean and tidy and finished in true Venetian style. The Buffett breakfast was more that adequate... More

Excellent 4 night break 1-5 June. This hotel is in an excellent location, close to all Venice has to offer. Arriving iat Venice airport, take the water bus (Orange route) to the Rialto Bridge, cross the bridge, turn left along the Grand Canal waterfront, take the 5th 'calle' on the right, you arrive The breakfast is continental and is excellent,... Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
