I booked this hotel as a Christmas present for my Mum. It was great! Ideally located, only a short stroll from the water-bus, or a 20 minute walk from the bus station, and 5 minutes to the Rialto bridge. Surrounded by great food places but without the higher tourist prices which you'll find closer to the sights. The staff were... More

Was taken to this hotel for my birthday, rooms were magical and authentic, hotel staff extremely helpful, perfect location in walking distance to all local attractions. Couldn't have picked a better location. Our stay included breakfast n it was beautifully laid out and vast choice of continental breakfast. Very good value for money for the high standard of rooms. Highly... More

Delightful boutique hotel, easy to reach by water bus from airport. Close to Rialto bridge and to vaporetto stop for travelling around Venice. (Ca d'Oro stop).Short walk to St Mark's square through interesting atmospheric little streets. Our room had a seating area downstairs and sleeping area upstairs...quirky and lovely. Good shower room. Amazing breakfast included to set you up for a... More

The hotel is in a great position for visiting the whole of Venice. The rooms are lovely and spacious. Breakfast was really nice in very special surroundings. The service was really friendly - especially when we were interested in the history of the building. We really did enjoy our stay and whilst we are not planning a return to Venice... More

Long overdue review of our great stay at the Hotel Antico Doge in Venice. The hotel was very easy to get to from the water taxi. Check in was easy and staff was very helpful, providing maps and information about Venice. Our luggage was carried up to our rooms for us (no elevator). The hotel is located in a great... More

Great hotel with great location in Venice. Close to Rialto bridge 5-10 minute walk. 15 minute walk to St. Marks square. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Rooms are very well appointed and have that Viennese style. My only down comment were that the beds were very firm (in both rooms we rented), as well as the pillows. However I... More

The hotel is localized very near Ca' D'Oro vaporetto station so if you come with heavy luggage and do not have plenty of money to spend on water taxis, you can reach it easily by land bus from Marco Polo Airport till Piazzale Roma where you can take No.1 water bus. All the options were previously explained to us by... More

This hotel is lovely and in some ways is worthy of 5 stars. I have marked it down because it does not have any lounge or reception area in which to sit, which I would have liked at this standard of hotel. The hotel building is beautiful to look at. It is one of the pedestrian 'motorways' which run through... More

We took a boat from the little port next to the airport to Rialto Bridge stop. From there, we walked towards the hotel. If you got google maps on you, you will be fine, it was pretty easy to find. Staff was super friendly and helpful. There are no elevators but that's no issue at all. They will help with... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
