We booked for 4 nights and it was a good experience. Hotel was centrally located to the sights that we visited. We asked for a quiet room which we got, room number 115, view was on to an ally way which was fine with us. Breakfast buffet style, boiled eggs, sliced cheese, ham, cornflakes, yoghurt etc and good strong coffee.... More

We only stayed for two nights but loved the hotel. It was full of Venetian style and character. It's central location was ideal and yet it was on a smaller canal so was set in a quieter area. The staff were helpful and treated us like honoured guests. We couldn't ask for more on our relatively tight budget.

We extended our stay to venice and booked 2 nights normal standard room and 4 night canal view room. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and unfortunately we were put in an extremely noisy room(we are pretty ok with some noise). It sounded as of we were above a bar which didn't close until early hours. This was the only downfall.... More

Just returned from a three-night stay at Hotel Antico Doge. The hotel was beautiful- spotlessly clean and gorgeous surroundings. We stayed in room 116 and it was large enough with a lovely bathroom, a double bed and two single beds for our children. The hotel is centrally located so there was quite a lot of pedestrian traffic going past the... More

Stayed for 4 nights, 9th-13th March 2015. Came to Venice with my husband to celebrate a special birthday. Couldn't have picked a better hotel, the location is excellent, being 5 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge, and around 10 from the iconic St Mark's Square. The hotel fronts onto a small canal, with a gondola stop right outside, making it... More

Excellent location- most days, we found ourselves popping in mid afternoon before heading our again. Staff were lovel, all very smiley and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. The breakfast staff were particularly impressive. Room was in the Venetian style and very comfortable, if a bit hot. For the money, we couldn't fault it.

I have just arrived back in UK last night after a fantastic stay in Venice. The hotel was fabulous- I could not have asked for more. The decor was very traditional Venetian and the hotel was very grand. Even though the rooms were traditionally decorated they were not old- they were spotlessly clean and grand. Beautiful parque floors throughout, modern... More

We chose Hotel Antico Doge based on reviews in Trip Advisor. We were very happy with our choice and would highly recommend this hotel. The staff were helpful, the rooms were comfortable and the location was very central to all activities.

Excellent choice for a family trip in Venice. We stayed in a 4-beds room. The hotel is located in the heart of the city, 15 minutes walking from S.Marco and 5 minutes from Rialto Bridge. A/C,TV, Wireless network was available in the room. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was continental with a lot of typical italian specialities.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
