We usually stay in large modern hotels so Venice was a challenge for us. Well done Matteo and your staff. Your service was spot on, with just the right advice to help us get to know Venice. I'm sorry that we didn't get to have a long talk about Venice and life I know I would have enjoyed it. Everything... More

My wife and I recently stayed at this boutique hotel for three nights to celebrate a milestone birthday. From the moment we arrived the hospitality shown towards us was exceptional (which was personal without being intrusive) and we even had a bottle of bubbly waiting for us on arrival to celebrate my wife's birthday - a very nice touch! The... More

This was our first trip to Venice, albeit a short stay, and the Al Ponte Antico Hotel was absolutely perfect. While tricky to find at first - tucked down a quaint alley, the hotel is located away from the overcrowded streets of Piazza San Marco but still within an easy walk to the city's major attractions and located right on... I am not one to usually write a review, but in this case I was compelled. My husband and I just returned from a trip in Venice were stayed at the Al Ponte Antico Hotel, which we found through TripAdvisor. It is by far the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Upon check-in we were warmly greeting by Alex,... More

We had the opportunity to visit Venice in late June 2015 and stayed at Al Ponte. This 9 room boutique hotel is located on the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge and within walking distance from major attractions like Piazza San Marco. The staff is very friendly and will do anything to please you. Client satisfaction is a top priority.... More

Location, accommodations, decor, all superlative. But best of all is Matteus and his staff (Alex et al), whose warm hospitality and eagerness to please were evident throughout. Coffee on the terrace overlooking the Grand Canal while Matteus prepares our custom breakfasts... you just have to experience it.

Perfect location, outstanding decor, and views from the terrace you will never tire of. This place has it all, and a great breakfast is just the icing on the cake. When you’re here, you feel you are a part of classic Italy. Sitting on the veranda, you are transported to what you always dreamed Venice should be. Just outside the... More

I love Venice and have visited the city on four previous occasions. So, when my daughter suggested we stay at Al Ponte Antico I had no idea that we were about to have a Venice experience that I would not have thought possible. Imagine being able to escape the cacophony and crowds of Venice and to retire to your own... More

Everything that everyone has said in other reviews about the location (next to Rialto, not far from San Marco), the staff (owner Matteus, Oliver, Alex, Tomos, Rosalba) and building (small but designed with pride) is completely true. I can even understand the one or two gripes about room 101 - it IS right next to the balcony and breakfast area.... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
