Our stay in this magical, authentic Venetian Palazzo was unparalleled. Matteo and his staff offer a level of hospitality not typically found. We felt like invited house guests. The hotel offers an elegant, quiet respite from the hustle bustle of Venice. Recommend transport by water taxi directly to and from airport.

I cannot praise this hotel high enough. The staff are like nothing I have experienced in any other hotel in any country, I could not rate them high enough. The location was ideal and the knowledge of the staff meant we maximised our time in this unique city. From the personalised breakfasts to the unbelievable accommodating nature of each member... My husband and I stayed here in April 2015. Matteo and his staff made this a delightful, relaxing retreat after the daily rigors of joining streams of tourists pouring through Venetian sidewalks. Matteo bowled us over with outstanding eggs, tables laden with every conceivable breakfast treats, fabulous cappuccinos, and wonderful aperitifs served on the terrace in the afternoons. Absolutely the... More

The Al Ponte Antico is the best hotel we have stayed in for service and location! The personal service was outstanding, all the staff knew our first names and went out of their way to make our stay perfect and enjoyable. The 14th century hotel was perfectly located on the grand canal by Rialto bridge for all the beautiful sights... More

We stayed here 3 nights with my parents and myself; a young adult. We came in the off season of January and were able to take advantage of a special winter rate. The rooms were styled to be traditional high class Venetian, with the gold accenta and tapestrys. We didn't want to book a separate room for myself and the... More

Apart from the excellent location and beautiful rooms, what makes this boutique hotel so special is the staff and the most elegant and graceful owner. Nothing is too much for the staff. The fact that they serve and welcome each time with your name adds to the allure of a beautifully presented hotel, with divine rooms. The owner cooks your... More

My husband and myself have travelled around the world and stayed in many hotels. Al Ponte Antico was without doubt at the top of our list. The hotel is a small boutique hotel with beautiful rooms. The staff make you feel so welcome at all times nothing is too much trouble. They make you free part of the family.

What a magnificent hotel with a view money shouldn't ought to be able to buy - but you can! Idyllically placed on the Grand Canal overlooking the Rialto Bridge our suite had it all. We arrived by private water taxi and were greeted by Alex who began by showing us around this restored 15th Century Palace. Spectacular, quaint and boutique.... More

Without a doubt one of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed in and certainly the only place to stay in Venice. Matteo and his team are wonderful - they gave me great recommendations on places to dine and some fabulous insights into Venice in general. The breakfast was superb - fresh eggs made to order and a sumptuous... More

We stayed here on our first 2 nights of a 10 day visit to Italy. What a way to start! Our flight was delayed by over half a day, so we arrived at night rather than day which was intimidating since we didn't speak Italian and had no idea where we were going. We contacted the hotel and they had... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
