Everything that everyone has said in other reviews about the location (next to Rialto, not far from San Marco), the staff (owner Matteus, Oliver, Alex, Tomos, Rosalba) and building (small but designed with pride) is completely true. I can even understand the one or two gripes about room 101 - it IS right next to the balcony and breakfast area.... More

We recently stayed at this hotel for 5 days and I can not say enough good things about it. Alex and Matteo and all of the staff have taken customer service to a new level. They make you feel like you are part of their family. The hotel is central... but expect to get lost as soon as you walk... More

My wife and I stayed at this wonderful hotel on the first stop of our European vacation. I can't say enough about the entire staff. I've travelled quite a bit and have never had such a positive experience at a hotel. Perfect location with a view of the canal and Rialto Bridge. Short walk to anywhere on the island. Their... More

We loved everything about it.. It's charming, clean, conveniently located and has a great view from the balcony. The breakfasts are delightful. After a day of sightseeing you just look for the Rialto Bridge signs if you're lost.

We actually stayed at Locanda Orseolo, their B & B on the Orseolo Canal but were recommended Hotel Ai Reali for a romantic "setting". They have a perfect small terrace overlooking the Rialto Bridge. I ordered some chilled Prosecco on ice and they arranged for rose petals to be scattered on the patio and we had it all to ourselves... More

We arrived by taxi launch from the airport straight to their little jetty right by the Rialto Bridge. It is the ONLY way to arrive! Met by really friendly and helpful staff, and the owner, who takes extraordinary care to ensure you get the most out of your stay, and avoid the pitfalls and tourist traps. Lovely terrace for breakfast... More

We visited the Al Ponte Antico in Venice for my 40th birthday trip. The customer service was hands down, the best I have ever experienced. They made you feel so special. We upgraded to stay in a room with a view of the grand canal and it was worth it! The room was spacious and gorgeous. This was our first... More

I have stayed in great hotels all over the world and this one ranks right near the top in service, quality and making you feel at home in an enchanting 14th century palazzo. Breakfast or drinks on the balcony overlooking the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge are not to be missed times.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary last week with a Mediterranean cruise that ended in Venice, where we stayed an extra night at Hotel Al Ponte Antico. The owner, Matteo, is the epitome of European charm and hospitality, and it is clear that the same service philosophy is ingrained in all staff members, who could not be more... More

This was our second trip to the Al Ponte Antico since 2009, and we are pleased to report that it was even more wonderful than we remember. This time we were able to share the experience with my partner's mother for the conclusion of her first trip through Europe. Matteo (the owner) and the entire staff worked hard to make... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
