Centrally located in the busiest part of Venice, this charming small hotel was a perfect place to unwind away from the very crowded squares and streets outside. Breakfast was delicious with numerous choices, and the hotel is well sited to grab a gondola ride or a vaporetto to travel along the Grand Canal. Dinner or drinks on the rooftop terrace... More

We stayed here for four nights as part of a sisters trip to Italy and it was wonderful. Our travel agent suggested this hotel for its location on the Grand Canal and to get the local experience. The rooms were very nice and the bathrooms were well appointed. The breakfast room was lovely with a nice assortment of fruit, pastries,... More

Locanda Vivaldi is located on the grand canal just two walking bridges from St Marks Square. The decor and ambiance is old world Venice. The bar at the top deserves a visit to admire the view...dinner choices were not that good. They were excellent in service especially getting us a taxi boat to the airport at 4:00 AM.

The Locanda is in a great location looking out onto the Grand Canal. Life you like smaller hotels with well appointed rooms and a great location, the Locanda is a great option. The roof top bar/restaurant is a great place to spend the late afternoon relaxing and watching the traffic on the Grand Canal. One afternoon, we watched two large... More

I stayed at the Vivaldi for the first time on the weekend of the 15th May. The overall experience of this Hotel was fantastic. I made the decision to book a deluxe superior room ( 206) for the special occasion of my Wifes 50th and also our wedding anniversary, we were not disappointed at all, the views of the lagoon... I loved my three nights here and the magnificent view from my room. I had booked a room with a view of the side canal and I got that, but I also got an incredible view of the lagoon which was the loveliest surprise. Breakfast was very nice, and the coffee was perfect. The location was fantastic, and my room... More

Nice hotel experience, very well located, comfortable albeit small rooms, good breakfast. It missed a top rating because the staff is a bit stiff. No early check in, no remembering guest's names, but helpful with good recommendations when asked. All in all, a good choice in a good location at a reasonable price.

We arrived at the hotel from the airport to be greeted by a very friendly receptionist... not complaining but no glass of champagne on arrival despite my informing the hotel the visit was for my wife's 60th Birthday this would have made the hotel visit not just special but extra special. Anyway we were shown to our comfortable room by... More

Hotel Vivaldi is an oasis 7 buildings from St Marcos and next to the Ferries going up the Grand Canal & to the airport. The rooftop restaurant open from May is cosy, has the friendliest waiter & offers good food. You can just stop for a drink too. The view is amazing! Our room was completely quiet at the back,... Buongiorno! Thanks a lot for your very kind review! I'm happy you enjoyed your stay with us. And I'm happy you pointed out an important feature of our property: the rooftop terrace! This is a very unique thing here in Venice. The first reason is that it's a common area, and everybody can access it. It means that you can... More

Location - great for St Mark's Square and nearby sites, and for waterbuses. Not too noisy - there are boat horns in the morning especially if it is misty but, hey, that reminds you that you are in Venice! Church bells too, which are lovely to listen to. A police station is on the other side of the canal, and... More

Buongiorno! Thanks a lot for your very kind review and suggestions. Concerning the credit card, I know it can give you a bad impression, but it's actually the easiest and less intrusive way to have a guarantee from our guest. There's nothing else we are authorized to do unfortunately. Don't worry, we are not going to buy a Ferrari with... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
