We took a private water taxi to our hotel from the airport and it was the best way to arrive. A perfect, quiet hotel, right in the heart of it all! On the water, you could not ask for a better location for water buses, views and easy access to the rest of the main city. Enjoy an aparatif from... More

This is a romantic hotel right on the lagoon a few blocks from Piazza San Marco and close to several vaparetto stops. The decor is baroque which suits the atmosphere of Venice. There's a small restaurant with great views on the top floor. The only thing we had an issue with was the wifi being slow and constantly dropping.

We spent two extra days on the end of our cruise. All I can say is there is not a better location in Venice. It starts with the water taxi dropping your bags off at the front door. Then how about a welcome home glass of wine and dinner on the rooftop restaurant overlooking the Grand Canal. The staff is... More

Thank you to all of the hotel staff. Hotel location was perfect. So easy to walk to St, Marks Square. Also, the hotel arranged for our transfer from the airport. (part car, and then the hotel's private boat took us the rest of the way. Lovely continental breakfast and an evening complimentary glass of champagne. Staff was very friendly and... More

Everything about our stay at Locanda Vivaldi was perfect, We were met at the Venice train station by the hotel's private boat and whisked away through the Grand Hotel to the hotel. Check in was efficient and we were taken to our room immediately. We had a beautiful view of the water and the room was quiet and comfortable. We... More

This hotel was very centrally located, close to San Marco square and all the shops, the room was a reasonable size, but the air conditioning was not the best, although the hotel did fix it when we complained. We were told this was a fabulous hotel and well worth the very large amount we paid, so we were very disappointed... More

Buongiorno! Thank you for your very kind review. I'm sorry we have not been able to match your expectations. Unfortunately things can go out of order, like your air conditioning. But, as you said, we made our best and fixed it immediately. Thanks a lot for letting me know about the toaster, we will fix that one also. I know... More

If you like a hotel with wonderful Lagoon views from a rooftop terrace restaurant and bar, a spacious, well decorated room with a Lagoon view, staff who are attentive when needed but otherwise a private hotel with its' own watergate so you can arrive in style and comfort by water taxi from the airport and find a welcome bottle of... back to the Vivaldi again - for the location , price and service , it can't be beaten . wifi was excellent and the breakfast very good . even lending us umbrellas and adapter plugs. Perfect place to stay for the best of Venice - particularly to view the bustle in the mornings. I will stay here again of course!

A stylish, quiet, small hotel of about 25 rooms on the waterfront halfway between San Marco and the Arsenale. Antonio Vivaldi was born near here. The rooms are modern and well appointed, though if you plan to spend much time in the hotel, it is worthwhile paying extra for the rooms at the front with their view of the lagoon,... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
