We stayed there already three times...always in summer, going back from southern Italy. "Arrive in Style" offer (pick-up service from Piazzale Roma) is really convenient after long journey (7 hours in our car). Hotel itself offers outstanding comfort. Just payment seems to be a bit confusing and complicated - I book the hotel about 2 months before arrival and my... More

Just steps - 2 bridges - away from St. Marks Sqare, this lovely hotel offers outstanding hospitality and comfort. The hotel's boat picked us up at Piazelle Roma and whisked us off to the Hotel's Dock where two of the hotel staff greeted us and led us thru a cool, welcoming garden and on to Reception. Our room on the... More

The hotel can be seen from the boat as you arrive at the San Zaccaria berth on arrival from the airport. It stands directly onto the lagoon waterfront and is 3 to 4 minutes walk from St Mark's square (dependent upon the amount of tourists in the way...). It takes about two minutes to drag your case from the waterbus... More

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, having stayed in hotels in Venice previously I was impressed with the size of the room and bathroom which was well stocked up with towels, robes and toiletries each day. The rooms themselves were tastefully decorated with work air conditioning which was very welcome in the sweltering August heat.I enjoyed a complimentary drink at... More

Very well placed ( 500m to San Marco Square), great view from the top terrace, do not miss it in the sunset. Good standard continental breakfast. If you choose the rooms with a view on the Canale, you will assume the street noise. If you don't you will assume some mosquito bites. Clean rooms and immaculate laundry and towels. Good... More

We were supposed to stay at the Hotel Al Codega in Venice. That's where our agent had booked us. But after one fiasco booking after another, we really wanted to stay in an exceptional property before we left for home. We were never disappointed at the Vivaldi. Located right on the water just a few bridges away from St Marks'... More

Convenient location, but grumpy staff and zero service. Most definitely not welcoming and does not deserve its 4 star rating. Best avoided. We arrived late at night by water taxi which drops you at the rear of the hotel. Check in was frankly awful. No help provided with luggage as lift was not working. Breakfast was ok, but nothing special.... More

Dear Martin, I'm sorry for the happening. What you wrote is very very unusual for us. Our staff (and the other reviews confirm what I'm writing) is usually very nice and always ready to help everybody. Sure we don't have the services of a 5 star hotel. The porter service is not available all the night long and the bar... More

This hotel is perfectly placed for St Marks square and the vaporetto stops. Great rooms (go for the superior) and lovely helpful staff. Use their boat to arrive in style! Right on the lagoon but quiet at night.

We took a private water taxi to our hotel from the airport and it was the best way to arrive. A perfect, quiet hotel, right in the heart of it all! On the water, you could not ask for a better location for water buses, views and easy access to the rest of the main city. Enjoy an aparatif from... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
