Stayed here during the winter because we booked late and most other options were either full or very expensive. The hotel is a bit outdated but every hotel in that area is for the most part. The paint in the shower was peeling, the beds were are pretty old and we stayed on the 4th floor and the elevator only... More

It was difficult to find the hotel, but i guess that's just Venice :) The staff was ok but not the friendliest. Location was perfect, we walked a lot and had a feeling we were right in the middle of the city. Maybe the cafés and restaurants in this area are a bit too expensive, but we walked to other... More

Everything about this hotel is great, location, rooms, breakfast... except moody receptionists that look like that they hate their life. In all fairness, there was a female member of reception staff that was really pleasant and helpful, unfortunately she was in only once during my stay in the hotel

Just back from three nights at the Gorizia a La Valigia hotel. The location is perfect, 2 minute walk from St Marks Sq and 3 minutes from the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. We had a fantastic couple of days exploring this fantastic city, it was extremely cold weather but the hotel was really warm, had to have the... More

I stayed at the Gorizia A La Valigia hotel in Venice on a short holiday . Its in the San Marco area . The hotel room is small and not well kept . Everything appears pretty old and needs furbishing . The pillows were so bad that i really had to complain about them and requested for a change but... More

Went to Venice in October for the Biennale. The hotel is centrally located between San Marco and Rialto with nice shops all around and a small grocery nearby. It is within walking distance to the Biennale venues, i.e., Giardini, Arsenale and Palazo Morra. The reception staff was helpful and polite. On the downside, the bed was not very comfortable and... This hotel has the perfect location in the middle of St Marks and Rialto Bridge both being a 5 minute walk. The room itself was fine it had everything you need, there was a bottle of someone's shower gel left from a previous guest in the shower so does make you wonder that they aren't that thorough with cleaning &... Three friends and myself went to Venice for a girl’s vacation. After checking out countless hotels we decided based on reviews on Trip Advisor to stay at the Hotel Gorizia and we booked two superior double or twin rooms. First let me say, the location was the best, and we totally felt safe there. We even left the window open... More

We were traveling with another couple and parked our van in the parking terminal. We took the water taxi which dropped us off within a couple of short blocks. It was not difficult getting to the hotel and we found it to be a great location. The rooms were clean and the breakfast plentiful and very good. We were only... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
