Booked through travel agent so cannot take credit for having the good sense to book this place. Had 2 nights here before joining our cruse ship. As the porter opened our room door (402) he said 'you have a nice room here'. He was so right, it had everything. Top floor, great bed, large bathroom and a balcony overlooking the... More

I stayed at the Amadeus last week with friends, and was very impressed with the hotel. It is a beautiful vintage hotel with comfortable beds and beautiful rooms. Breakfast is included in a dining room complete with fabric covered chairs and linen tablecloths. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. It is in a great location - walking... More

The hotel is very well located the waterbed from the airport is just 10 minutes walk away, only one bridge to take a case over. Our rooms were excellent. Breakfast choice fine to get your day started. We booked via hotwire , and liked this hotel. The rooms were a bit smaller than we are used to but given the location it could've been worse. The staff was nice and carried our bags to our room. The wifi is very very hit and miss. It's about a 15-25 minute walk to San Marco Square, 5 minute walk... More

Our stay with the Amadeus got off to a rocky start as I needed to change from a single to double room the day prior to arriving but my many emails to them requesting this went ignored. Upon arrival we were told that a double room was not available and initially the receptionist seemed not so interested in helping. When... More

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights, staff was really kind and helpful. They offered us a Venice map which guided us for the whole stay. The room was not well mantained, air conditioner only worked for heat, there was a heater in the bathroom that we had to ask to turn it off. The view from our room... More

We know the hotel rooms in Europe (compared to Asia) are only so so and didn't expect too much as we wanted something close to the Train station. (My husband had just sustained an knee injury just before the trip and was in a wheel chair.) The room in terms of decor and amenities were acceptable. The furniture and carpet... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
