The Hotel staff was exceptional. My daughter's 15th birthday fell during our visit, and she was presented with a large package of cookies and a card from the staff at breakfast. We had great restaurant recommendations from the staff. Hotel location is perfect for a short trip. The canal is small and quiet only 2 minute walk from St Mark's.... More

We loved our stay at the Hotel Colombina. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had a beautiful room that overlooked the canal with the gondoliers singing as they paddled by below our room. AnnLisa, Marco and Alessandro were amazing and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and information on the city. Cannot wait to visit again soon!

I stayed here for 3 days with my Mother. It was a fantastic choice. The hotel is in a lovely spot. Our room had a little balcony over looking the canal, with foldable double doors. The rooms are beautiful: crown moulding, a chandelier. The hotel offers a free boat trip to Morano on a private taxi. I get a wee... More

Just arrived back from our third stay at the hotel, we obviously have a high opinion of the Colombina. On this occasion we treated ourselves to a whole week which allowed plenty of time to see the sights and also time to relax. This is a relatively small hotel in a wonderful location (once you have found it, although instructions... More

The rooms are very good at this hotel. The thing that sets this place apart from others is the staff. They are brilliant and nothing is a bother for them. A special thank you goes to Marco who went out of his way to assist us with every request. Thank you Marco.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel in May, It took us a while to find it as it was 50 euros to get there by water taxi, once we got to the hotel there was a little problem with our room but the lady at reception was very lovely and helpful and said there were two rooms we... More

Our room had old world charm... high ceiling with beams, shuttered windows. We had a private balcony with views of multiple roof tops and a few other balconies (a scene I plan to paint one day soon). The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The only negative was the size of the bathroom. My husband commented that that he could... More

We thought the service was great. The breakfast was good - plenty to choose from - a little bit better than continental I would say. Clean sheets every day which was lovely and our room was beautiful with a big chandelier very grand.... Well located near St Marks Square. We had a balcony which made quite a difference and we... The staff at the Columbina are absolutely outstanding, before and during our visit they went out of their way to provide any assistance and service. On departure day they even offered a breakfast box and made coffee at 4.30am !!! Hotel is clean, comfortable and very handy to St Marco square, water taxi transfers are arranged from the airport to... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
