The Metropole has always been our favourite hotel in Venice. It has recently changed from a 4 star to a 5 star, I guess with a corresponding increase in cost. This is an incredible hotel on the Riva degli Schiavoni. It is approximately 200 meters from St Marks Square but far enough away to be quiet. I would suggest everyone to stay here. Far away from the crowd of St.Marks Sq. but at the same time 2 blocks away from it (better to say 2 bridges away from it).
