The best part about the hotel is its location. Its located in the grand canal and is 5 minutes walk from the rail station, bus stop and water bus station. Furthermore, its one of those hotels which is on the main canal. Thus, if you are willing to spend extra 50 euro, the view is excellent. The rooms are small... More

We stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel is conveniently located across from the main train station and there is a bridge close by that allows you to walk across the canal to the hotel. However, the bridge is comprised of stairs so carrying a lot of luggage will be a strain. There are "helpful" migrants who will approach you... More

We spend 4 nights at the Carlton on the Grand Canal and were very happy with the service we received. Positives: 1. Location- close to Ferrovia water bus and easy to get around despite not being too close to the main sites (Rialto, St. Marks) 2. Customer service- the staff were very helpful and polite 3. Rooftop bar- a nice... More

Just returned from a 3 night stay in Carlton on Grand Canal. Lovely hotel, friendly and helpful staff and excellent roof top bar where we had a lovely relaxing meal with view of sunset and canal. Ideal location away from busy St Marks Square area but easily reached by water taxi or meandering through warren of quaint alleyways and bridges.

Without exception every member of staff was polite, helpful and would go out of their way to help. Excellent value! Room was clean and tidy, breakfast good, roof top bar pleasant. Good Value! 2 minute walk from the rail station - noise isn't an issue, you'd never know there was a station there if no one told you. Some excellent... More

Very convenient location on the canal. We were with a group and did not have a room facing the canal which would have been nice. The rooftop bar is great to have a drink and watch the activity on the canal. Rooms are small as to be expected. Interesting city, but very expensive.

We stayed in the Classic Double Room. Generally good hotel....but the sewer smell from the bathroom made the experience rather unpleasant. Also the fact that we could not open the windows as they faced other rooms made it worse! Location : The hotel is bang opposite the Santa Lucia train station across the Grand Canal but connectef by a bridge... More

I have just returned from a weekend in Venice. We stayed at this hotel. It is very quaint and unique. Do not expect any high tech - no key cards but actual keys for the room, old school bathroom with a proper (not automatic) flush, etc but all of these things make this hotel very charming. Breakfast was everything you... More

Stayed her 29th - 31st May for my partners birthday. The staff treated us exceptionally. However a lot could be desired for their customers unfortunately. Breakfast continental, tea, coffee and all amenities great. Roof top bar great. However, as we stated we were not eating there but having a drink we were not as warmly welcomed. But we weren't too... Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
