My husband and I chose this hotel to have a city break and celebrate the anniversary of when we met 3 years ago and got engaged 2 years ago. We were not disappointed by this well-run hotel. The staff were excellent. The location was ideal, away from the hustle of the main attractions but right opposite the train station on... More

I stayed here a couple of nights before boarding a cruise of the Mediterranean. The hotel was located near both the train and bus stations. It was a couple of kilometres to walk to some of the most popular tourist locations however, walking the streets of Venice is why I was there. The water transportation options were all at your... Carlton turned out to be a great placement for us, away from the tourist crowds and right across from the train station for our early morning departure. The hallway carpet is a bit tired but our room on third floor was spacious & quiet. Staff was efficient, friendly & accessible. The rooftop restaurant provided great sunset & people watching, and... Family of 4. Small room, not much room. But clean bathroom and good location. Carpet looked a bit tired. Breakfast was nice. Staff friendly & helpful. Near station & buses which was great. Would stay again. Roof top lounge was nice, my husband & I enjoyed drinks there but didn't try the food. Air con was good considering we had... More

We are staying here for 10 days. 18th - 28th July 2015. We got a three bedroom on ground level. Super good airconditioning. Outside temperature is around +33 -+35. Our room is like heaven. No steps at all. My wife is in wheelchair. But the only way to get here is water taxi. But we managed to walk two bridges... More

We took this hotel expecting the best of the options. when we came to the room, was very poor, needing some love. the air conditioner was acting like a fan, with this hot summer and the wifi doesn't come to the room, if you want to get connected you need to go to the lobby. The post some pics about... More

It's just 5 minutes from the train station and offers a great view of the grand canal at the balcony. Water taxis are easily available as well. The room, though small, meets the basic needs of a traveller. Downside is it's a 40mins walk to St Marc's Square. The staff are generally friendly. Breakfast items are limited.

Stayed at this hotel in June as part of a twin centre break to Rome and Venice. Walked out of the train station in Venice and the hotel is opposite just across the Grand Canal. This meant no need for a transfer which we appreciated having spent two days exploring Rome and a 3 1/2 train journey. The location of... More

I stayed in this hotel as part of a tour i was on. I was very disappointed when I arrived in my room to see a very small room with one twin bed and no real shower (just a curtain in the middle of a tiled bathroom). But all that was forgotten when I opened my little door to the... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
