The location is good, and that is a plus. The common areas and lobby are nice, the breakfast is ok... The rooms are small, and ours overlooked the central courtyard. I do not think they have been recently renovated, and they have that "old rococo" venetian look with old ornamental glass lamps and cloth wallpaper covering (rather than a fresh,... More

This hotel is right on the Grand Canal, near rail station and water bus terminals, so ideal to transfer from Airport or take your own private taxi to the nearby bus terminal if you didnt want to go by water and walk approx 5mins to the hotel. The entrance and lobby area is very enviting with a welcoming feeling to... More

Stayed at the hotel overnight Very comfortable hotel and even looked after our luggage for the day when we returned after cruise We had a late flight out of Venice so that was much appreciated Sited opposite main station so great if you arrive or leave by train Great views of Grand Canal from our room Loved it

Believe me this photo does not portray the size of our room. Ours was tiny! We overlooked a courtyard, and to stop myself getting too claustrophobic, I had to open the window. The hotel is opposite the main train station coming into Venice, but that's the only thing I can recommend. The breakfast wasn't that good and the service at... More

Stayed in The Carlton for 3 nights in August, possibly one of the hottest times of year, the hotel was always cool, very welcome after a days sightseeing. We arrive around lunchtime and check was conducted smoothly and efficiently, we were able to go straight to our rooms. The hotel is a little dated but still elegant, the rooms are... More

The best part of this hotel is its location. Right opposite the Station. We caught a water taxi from the airport and alighted at Guglie which is about a 10 minute walk to the hotel over the Ponte degli Scalzi. Tip - Buy your water taxi tickets at the hotel reception and save time not queing outside the station (same... More

Located on the Grand Canal right across from the train station. Room was nicely decorated but a little on the small size. Bathroom was extremely small and really no room to put your toiletries. Air conditioning didn't cool the room very well. Staff was very friendly and they did serve a good free breakfast.

Very small rooms. They need a renovation for sure..it was "raining" inside the room too..(look at my pictures attached). The worst part of this SPARTAN experience in this OVERPRICED bad hotel, was the rude attitude of some members of the front desk staff. I felt like a "cow" instead of a customer. THANKS Mr MARCO. I feel cheated, and I... More

We stayed here for one night prior to a cruise from Venice. Best I can say is the location was great which is what you are paying for. Requested a room with a view of the canal which we didn't get, when we opened our shutters we faced a wall therefore the lights were on all the time. Tiny rooms,... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
