As we were booking a trip to Venice for our last holiday together before the birth of our first child, I wanted to make sure we were getting a comfortable hotel in a convenient area as a good base for exploring the city for the first time. I tend to worry about everything, from transport to/from the hotel to the... more

You can’t get a better location than this hotel for Venice. Some would say that the San Marco area is better, but that’s way too many people and way too touristy. Getting to this hotel is simple – a 20 min ride from the airport in the 3Euro AVTO bus (catch it right outside the airport) followed by a 5... more

being a hotelier myself i know what some of the comments can be like on this forum so i share my thoughts candid;y. After arriving from Milan via Euorstar City the hotel is just across the brigge however the bridge is probably the steepest and with many steps and no ramp access for luggage. So we struggled with many other... more

After a bad experience with a travel agent, we chose to "brave it" on our own and design our own holiday, flights, accomadation etc - we did very well in deed. The hotel Carlton was wonderful. We looked at it on various wesites and review sites, then used Google Earth to zoom on in to get a feel of where... more

Just back from a 3 day trip. Good location.... close to the Railway, bus stop and water bus stop. The Staff were very helpful..... A canal view is well worth it, just to watch the world go by.... Breakfast is very good. Rooms tiny but clean and after all its only somewhere to drop the cases...! Would definately recommend this... more

Loved this hotel. Great location only 2 min from bus and railway station. Its Also near the waterbus stops. Very clean and luxurious. The decor is lovely and old world. The rooms were a good size and so was bathroom. The one major problem was that the air con was not working in the rooms and it was uncomfortably hot!!! It... more

Location pretty good as very easy access to all transport links, and right on the canal. It is a fair walk to the main sights which we actually liked as you can lose yourself in all the side streets and little shops along the way. Agree with other comments about the drinks and room service in the hotel being a... more

The Carlton & Grand Hotel is a good basic tourist hotel. No room service so where they get their 4 stars is questionable!! Not even a coffee could be mustered up for an early start to catch a 7am flight. It is spotlessly clean and located right at the far end of the Grand Canal (furthest from St Marks -... more

I brought my girlfriend on a romantic get away to Venice. The hotel was in close proximity to the main parking area, however I recommend using luggage with wheels as the distance could be problematic due to its steps. The amenities were good, providing the essential necessities for a comfortable stay. The room was clean, the main area is great... more

Just returned after a two night stay in this hotel with my Husband. It isn't a trendy boutique style hotel, but has old fashioned charm with flocked walls and wooden painted furntiture in an old Venitian style. We liked it more for that reason. The location couldn't be better as it was only a few minutes walk away from the... more
