We booked 2 bedroom apartment during June 2015. What I liked: Loved apartment and location. Friendly staff. Value for money, considering the peak tourist season. What I didn't like: No hotel pickup, we had to take a water taxi at EUR 70. Definitely recommend for family!

A jewel in a quiet part of Venice. Situated a few doors away from the police station the hotel is easy to get directions to if you get lost among the tiny streets Venice has to offer. We had a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment which was very clean and suited our needs perfectly. Had a separate seating area and... More

The staff was very friendly and really helped with directions prior to arrival. The hotel itself is located next to the police station. The rooms were large and clean. Bathrooms had plenty of hot water and the wifi worked great. There are good restaurants nearby and the Piazza San Marco is within a 5-10 walk. I would definitely stay here... More

After many exhausting hours searching for the perfect hotel, I came across the apartments at Al Bailo di Venezia. What a find!! The apartment was amazing! Clean, perfect location, right on a canal and a very helpful staff. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Our apartment had two floors with the bedroom on the top floor. I... More

Al Bailo was the perfect spot for our family (dad & mom with 13 and 11 year-old boys). The location was ideal for an easy walk to the busy San Marco area. The nearest grocery store is literally just a 5 minute walk, which we needed to take advantage of for breakfast food. It was very hot and humid during... More

Hotel was superb with a good channel view. We recommend 2 bedroom suit. It was increadible in all points. There were some small jams, biscuit and coffee for the breakfast. All places were so clean. Location is also good and more silent compare to center. Only problem is after gettin of the vaporetto you have to walk a while. with... More

We had booked another apartment but came across this one by accident. And we're glad we did! The property is a place of calm in a city otherwise bursting over with tourists. Yet it is only 5-10 minutes walk from Piazza San Marco and most of the main attractions. The apartment is extremely clean, everything works and the staff is... More

We've just returned from 3 nights here. Our 1 bed apartment was spotlessly clean, spacious and well equipped (nespresso machine - with a good amount of capsules, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, large fridge). The provision of melba toasts, jam and nutella was a nice extra. As was the inclusion of dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid! We found the a/c to... More

We just came back from staying in these apartments and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Really friendly owners who made an extra effort to ensure our stay was as good as possible, also recommending which places to see and how to get to all of the attractions. Our apartment was clean, modern and had all the amenities needed, with tea, coffee... More

Our apartment was a great size in a great location, lovely to have space to cook etc. Nice toiletries and bits and bobs for breakfast, and very clean. Also very friendly and helpful staff. Downsides would be the bed - really not very comfortable partly due to being 2 singles joined together, plus a lack of view/natural daylight. Temperature also... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
