I was brougt there with my friend by the guy that I assume ran the place. He walked us over by all these little shady backstreets without telling us where we were going. Such a shady place. We had to sleep in turns so no-one would steal our stuff. Bathrooms were in terrible condition, shower was kinda broken and everything... More

Youth Venice Home was my first hostel experience, and I was very nervous. However, we were pleasantly surprised by our one night stay at this location! The area was generally clean, beds were comfortable enough, and the service was average. The staff courteously sent a link via email to a video walkthrough on how to find them. This proved an... For those who don't want to read my full review, I will write the bottom line first: spend an extra 10-15 euro and book somewhere better. You'll likely end up spending the same amount on their made up charges anyway; If not on that then you definitely will on laundry after you wake up with bed bug bites from this... More

Our adult family (2 adults with 2 adult children) were pleasantly surprised that the Hostel arranged another room for us at another location so that we would enjoy a quiet rest as the main location was filled with youngsters at the time of our visit. We enjoyed our stay and visit to the main island of Venice and would highly... More

My god, where do I start with this place? For one, it barely feels like a hostel. With only one bathroom usable, objects like door handles, or lockers falling apart, rude staff, outrageous prices, making you pay extra for bedsheets and pillows extra, a barely usable kitchen, as they won't allow guest use of the stove, or even the washing... We went here because it was cheap and only stayed for one night. But first we had to go to a different part of the city, where the people didn't even have our reservation. We ended up paying more and had to sleep in a room with more people than expected. Then a guy brought us to the actual hostel... More

Easy to get to from the train station, one vaperetto and a 5 minute walk into a scenic and safe area right next to St Marco's Piazza. The accommodation had a feeling of space and comfort. There was Spotless linen in my room with a large locker each which fit my entire suitcase. Loads of restaurants and cafes nearby that... More

This is without doubt the worst hostel I have ever stayed in. It's just someone's flat with as many beds crammed in as they can. We arrived to find a huge sign saying "TOURISTS GO HOME" painted on a wall near the entrance. We had to pay 5 euros for the privilege of a bedsheet. When we payed the guy... More

Hello, I can only apologize to your complaints, and attempt to explain some things. I'm sorry you never received your four euros, and that you disliked your time here so much. The Venice government does not allow for the construction of new buildings, so all hostels in the city proper stand to have been converted from old living spaces. The... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
