We had a quad room here in August. The location was perfect!! We wanted to be close to the train station. I didn't realize it was also very close to a main stop for the water bus. The room was fine and spacious and the staff were very helpful. I was surprised that as crowded as Venice was, we did... More

My husband and I are spending several weeks in Italy to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Our anniversary night was spent at La Locanda di Orsaria, and it was the nicest accommodation we've had in Italy. We stayed in a superior double room (#204) and it was gorgeous. We truly felt like a king and a queen for a day.... More

We spent three nights at this B&B. We booked our stay several months ago based on review here on TripAdvisor. In reading the reviews back now, I realized that the stellar reviews must have been written by travelers who stayed in ONLY the Superior rooms. I'll start with the good: 1- Excellent location. Minutes from the train station and directly... More

positive: great staff, great location, quiet and peaceful, AC worked well, bathroom well equipped, breakfast: adequate with excellent coffee, great orange juice. WIFi: not bad Negatives: Turn left from station and the turn left in a small alley which can be missed easily with hardly any visible road names, had to ask around for directions.Bedding and mattress : ranked #3 out of 4... We booked a superior double room which overlooked gardens therefore it was blissfully quiet, despite being so close to the main drag. This is a small family run hotel with friendly and helpful staff. The continental breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary except for coffee which was made to order: the best coffee in Venice!. The staff picked up... More

A very good hotel near Venice Railway station. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We had a superior room on the 2nd floor and were very happy. The only drawback - no lift, so wouldn't suit some travellers. We would definitely stay here again.

It is an old building and has no elevator. Which is kind of standard Venice. On the plus side, the rooms are spacious, showers were great and breakfast is a memorable experience. Also on the plus side, if you arrive in Venice by train, you don't need to cross any bridges to get to the hotel, it is enough to... More

We stayed here for 4 nights, and for some reason, we were given a room upgrade. A very nice, quiet room, with fly screens and air conditioning. Everything very clean and tidy. Breakfast room rather small (in fitting with type/size of hotel, but no problem). Plenty to eat. Reception girls very helpful and friendly.

This was a very nice find. Starting with a warm welcome and helpful staff and finishing with a fun and interesting breakfast. Being close to the bus and rail stations makes this an ideal choice for those who do not want to carry their bags too far. The Grand Canal is nearby as are many tourist shops and a range... More

This was our first time in Italy, and the first city we visited. The hotel arranged for us to be picked up at the airport and the driver was waiting for us when we arrived. We initially picked this hotel because it was close to the train station (really close!) which made it easy when we left to travel to... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
