This was my fourth time staying at Hotel San Julian since 1997. All four times, 1997, 2006, 2012, 2015 the hotel has been clean, provided a great breakfast, and the staff were very polite and helpful. The location of the hotel, a 3 minute walk from the San Marco Church is ideal. Venice is for walking around and shopping. One... More

Typical European Hotel. Small but very clean. I had read the Trip Advisor review and were first shown towards the rooms in the annex, which are noisy. I asked the front desk to show us another room which he did, but after that there was no interaction. Breakfast staff and room attendents very friendly. The front desk guy on Saturday... More

We went to Venice from Rome where our stay was awful. the Hotel San Zulian was fantastic and a welcome relief, he room was a good size, the bed was comfortable and with closing the shutters locked away any outside noise. The continental breakfast was very good with the usual options. The hotel was clean and the saff friendly. It... More

My two sisters and I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our Italian vacation and we loved the location of this hotel. This hotel was in the perfect location close to the Rialto Bridge and just off of St. Mark’s square. The room was nice, the breakfast was good, and for the value this hotel was spot... More

We stayed at San Zulian for 6 nights. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is superb being positioned between St. Marco and Rialto, making it possible to walk just about anywhere. The room was very adequate and had a spacious bathroom compared to other three star hotels we have used in Europe. The breakfasts are buffets which... More

A first visit to Venice stopping for 4 nights. We chose the San Zulian because of its location: easily accessible when you arrive and then to move around the city. We will happily use this hotel again as - bar an initial hiccup - it gave us what we wanted and expected. We found ourselves booked into a room which... More

Let's face it, hotels in Venice are comparatively expensive compared to other European cities. Searching for a mid price hotel for a family room for 4 this hotel seemed to fit the bill. Initially wary of some earlier reviews yet this hotel offers excellent value for money. Location was perfect with 2 young kids, 5 mins walk to San Marco... More

We stayed here for 3 nights 7th-10th May 2015. Great location - 2 minute walk from St Mark's square. Lovely vintage style rooms. Very comfortable - no kettle in room. Simple but spacious room. Most members of staff very helpful and friendly. No hot food at breakfast but still lots of choice. Would recommend!

Stay here in March 2015 on a girls trip to Europe. Hotel staff was very pleasant. Hotel room was very small and clean. 2 minutes walk to dining and some good food. Venice is a beautiful city. I would stay at this hotel in the future. Ladies shopping is great, beautiful bags 👜 and shoes👠, bring some money.

I booked this hotel during Holy Week in Venice and wasn't sure what to expect since rooms in the city were already sparse. Was I pleasantly surprised! Do not book here if you want canal views (they are non-existent); do book here if you want to be a two-minute walk to San Marco Square or a ten-minute walk to the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
