Let's face it, hotels in Venice are comparatively expensive compared to other European cities. Searching for a mid price hotel for a family room for 4 this hotel seemed to fit the bill. Initially wary of some earlier reviews yet this hotel offers excellent value for money. Location was perfect with 2 young kids, 5 mins walk to San Marco... More

We stayed here for 3 nights 7th-10th May 2015. Great location - 2 minute walk from St Mark's square. Lovely vintage style rooms. Very comfortable - no kettle in room. Simple but spacious room. Most members of staff very helpful and friendly. No hot food at breakfast but still lots of choice. Would recommend!

Stay here in March 2015 on a girls trip to Europe. Hotel staff was very pleasant. Hotel room was very small and clean. 2 minutes walk to dining and some good food. Venice is a beautiful city. I would stay at this hotel in the future. Ladies shopping is great, beautiful bags 👜 and shoes👠, bring some money.

I booked this hotel during Holy Week in Venice and wasn't sure what to expect since rooms in the city were already sparse. Was I pleasantly surprised! Do not book here if you want canal views (they are non-existent); do book here if you want to be a two-minute walk to San Marco Square or a ten-minute walk to the... More

The location was excellent, just a few minutes walk from San Marco square, so very centrally located. Rooms were good, crowded (but not unexpectedly so.) Breakfast seating area was small, but the meal itself was good, with fresh cappucino brought to the table. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and the staff were very pleasant and welcoming.

I think this place was a lucky find for us. Central enough. Laundry nearby which was super useful!! Pleasant, minimal, staff. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Close to the hop on hop off buses. Lots of cafes and a few restaurants. Some posh, some for families. Nothing to complain about. :)

Spacious & comfortable room, our 14 year old son slept on a lounge, but also said he was comfortable. The hotel is also close to Piazza San Marco, around a 5 minute walk. Loved the atmosphere as well, it was great waking up to the bells from Piazza San Marco. The small restaurant next to hotel (& also where you... More

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. Our room was very small and overlooked the court yard at the rear of the property, so I think was probably not one of the best at the hotel. However it was spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable and the bathroom modern and again spotless. Anyway we didn't go to Venice... More

The hotel is very central, very clean, and typically 'venetian'. It is located in two steps from Piazza San Marco (you have to enter the narrowest possible street on the left backward side from the Cathedral, a pair of smaller yellowish painted lions are the street sign), the distance to to ponte di Rialto is a couple of hundred metres... Hotel San Zulian is perfectly situated just one minute away from the north-east corner of San Marco's square. It's an ideal base and starting point within the maze that is central Venice, and is thus especially recommended for newbies. Nearby you will find restaurants, bakeries, cafes, desert shops, gelato, practically everything you need. It's a wonderfully convenient location. Our room... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
