Very easy quick walk from the train station; no dragging your suitcases up and down bridge stairs as we saw many people doing! Our room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was spacious and very clean (though I wished it had some counter space but it's not common in Europe). The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Our room was... More

We spent 2 nights here in the New Year, what a let down, our room stunk like a septic tank, which we complained about as the other couple we were travelling with did not have a smelly room, the staff simply did not care, offered no solution and shot us dirty looks for being so rude as to complain. The... More

The view from this hotel is amazing, we had a room with a corner view over the grand canal, unfortunately, the air didn't really work, so we had to open the windows and we both got about 10 mosquito bites a piece, I could hear the boats all night, which didn't really bother me, but might bother others, not sure... Very nice hotel in a great location for sightseeing and accessing the train station/vaporetto/walking. We had room 133 which has a superb view of the Grand Canal through a small balcony and separate window. A spacious room with very powerful shower/bath. tea/Coffee provided in the room but never any milk. The only downside is the very small lift if people... More

I stayed at the Hotel Continental in Venice for 4 days. The staff were extremely helpful and the hotel had charm. I travelled with a group of 18. We were all treated very courteously by all the staff. The breakfast was well organised and the staff very attentive.

If you are looking for a typical Venice experience, this is the Hotel for you. It's in a historic building full of Venetian character, with Murano glass chandeliers in the bedrooms. My husband describes it as "shabby chic", a little more tired on the higher floors but our room was clean & light. Unless of course you prefer a soulless... More

Literally a stones throw away from the train station, which is key if hauling around luggage in a city of cobblestone, bridges, and stairs. When you leave the train station just follow the main road and it will appear in a couple of minutes on your right hand side. The lobby is very nice and the staff were very helpful.... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in April. Great location, a short walk to Santa Lucia station and waterbus stands. Room very small and showing it's age, the carpet needed a clean. However bed was comfortable and bathroom fairly modern. Room was also quite hot as air conditioning not turned on until Summer. Breakfast was very good in a room... More

We stayed at this hotel for one night to catch our cruise the next day. Our room 4123 (all the way to the top) no lift. Room was small but bed was nice and comfortable. View of roofs (not pretty). They have porters to carry your bags upstairs and downstairs, just asked and a couple of dollars. Everyone was nice... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
