My wife and I visited this past Carnaval and checked into the hotel. We had written to them weeks before asking for a direct overlooking room what we got was a smelly OLD room desperate to be renovated. We showed the desk that we were promised a front room then after checking out three other rooms we got the one... More

We chose this hotel as a package which included a water taxi transfer and half board accommodation. The staff - Claudia in particular - were particularly helpful and friendly.....not that 'professional courtesy' - more a real willingness to do her best to help. From our queries about the option of upgrading the room to helping out with our questions about... More

we stayed over new years eve and loved this hotel. although when walking in it looks a little old fashioned it fits in with the whole of venice. We spent a day in rome which was ideal as this hotel is so close to the train station. If you want to be really close to the attractions this may not... More

Location is great. Walking distance to train station and waterboat point. Room is clean... Just a point, maybe the carpet could be vacuumed more thoroughly. Food is nice and fresh. Hot food is always replenished. Maybe a slight change in variety and slightly more warm food would be a bonus.

We stayed, with 12 others, for a week in the Continental Hotel in Venice on a sight-seeing holiday. The hotel proved to be an excellent base being on the Grand Canal, with ready access to bus and rail stations and the vaporetto very nearby. The Continental is a traditional 4* hotel where everything worked, the breakfasts were excellent and the... More

The hotel location is very good near the train station. The hotel has classical old style coping with the city ambience. Though it was one night stay but it is recommended for longer stays. Its value to money is good and rooms are average size.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
