Location of the hotel was excellent - near the train station on a quiet street by a canal. Room was roomy and quiet. Breakfast was good and filling with good choices. Staff was helpful and very friendly

We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Hesperia, the staff was very nice, the room was clean and cosy and we had the terrace all to ourselves. Breakfast was good as well. We would definitely come back again.

Stayed in a decent sized and clean room not overlooking the canal which was perfect for our needs. The hotel is very well placed only a ten minute walk from the bus and train stations. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from St Mark's square and there are many restaurants near by as well as a boat stop... More

The hotel is perfectly located, not too close to the touristy area and pretty close to the train station which made it easy to get and find. The rooms were nice but the bathroom is a little small. Breakfast was good as well. Location is a little far from the Piazza San Marco but everything in Venice is walking distance... More

Starting with a warm and accurate welcome, nice and well heated room with ensuite bathroom.Excellent location, close to railway station on the side Cannaregio Canal. For Italian standard a good breakfast with rich choice and excellent friendly service. In 2 words:"Da consigliare!" One tip: if possible,a bit lower room temperature at night,we don't need not such a warm room to sleep.

We stayed at Hotel Hesperia for 3 nights in January. The staff were delightful, extremely helpful and went over and above to help us and make us feel welcome. We had a room with a view of the canal which was lovely. We had the private bathroom rather than en suite but this didn't matter at all. They also have... More

Hotel was clean, quiet, accommodating and in a great location away from the tourists. Also, the complimentary breakfast was very nice. My only complaints are the bed wasn't very comfortable and the cigarette smoke from the rooms around us was continually a nuisance. Otherwise, great deal.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
