The management went beyond the call of duty for us making coffee when we returned from sightseeing booking us a Vivaldi concert and walking tour and enduring we knew what ferries and water taxis to take . It may be rated three star but the service was five star adding to our opinion that Venice was our favourite destination of... More

The hotel is decent not much to say. If you are looking for something fancy this is definitely not for you. I was only in Venice for a day and did not spend much time in the room. The rooms are small but adequate. The beds aren't very comfy and the linens are old but for being on a budget... More

This is a little gem of a hotel in the Cannaregio area of Venice if you are prepared to share your neighbours toilet habits, sexual appetites and bronchial health! Take earplugs as they are needed, the room we had was an upgrade for 50€ for the 5 nights there, it overlooked the Cannaregio canal but was adequately soundproofed from the... More

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the back end of April. It is located in Cannaregio and is approximately a 3 minutes walk from the Guglie water stop - this being the 2nd stop by Waterbus (Alilaguna) from the airport. As you get off the waterbus and continue along the canal, after approx. 50... More

This is our second stay in Venice and at the Hotel Hesperia. Prior to our first stay in Venice, research told us to book a hotel that we could walk to without having to cross a bridge. Simple enough. The Hotel Hesperia met this condition so we booked a room. The hotel is an easy seven minute walk from the... More

This was one of the least expensive hotels in the area so from that standpoint it is a nice place to stay. Walking distance from the train was key for us. A canal view was a bonus. We got both - but had to pay extra for the canal view - and I don't know if is was a plus.... More

Really great little hotel, staff very friendly, they even gave us a free upgrade with a canal view which was lovely. Ideal for easy access to the station, but in a nice, quiet location. Room a good size and very clean. Would definitely stay here again.

Really nice little place, quiet and within easy reach of main drag. Friendly and helpful staff, generous breakfast and comfortable beds. Not all rooms have their own bathroom and this is the cause of a lot of noise especially if other guests are up late and slam doors as they use the bathroom. Walls rather thin so you share your... This hotel was nice, but I don't know that I would rush back to stay there again, except that the owner and staff were very helpful and accommodating. The room was fine. Pretty clean. It had a nice view overlooking the canal. The breakfast was nice. We were only there for 2 nights, so it was fine. If we had... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
