My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in July 2014. The location was perfect as within walking distance to all the main attractions, restaurants and importantly away from the crowds. The room was comfortable but like the bathroom they were both very small but were clean and well serviced. The breakfast was simple but adequate. Staff were polite,... More

We were on holiday in Croatia , Rovinj, decided as we could we wanted to show our son Venice on his birthday ! we travelled on the hydrofoil 4 hours and thank goodness we booked an overnight stay as you could not see enough in one day. The Hotel was unassuming tucked away in a small side street not too... More

The perfect location! We had a room overlooking the canal on the second floor and it was perfect. The beds were very comfortable, the room was quiet and clean. Staff was very polite. Breakfast was not that great but it was sort of expected from an Italian hotel. One unpleasant part of the experience is the lack of elevator and... More

Stayed here one night in Apriil 2013, found it easy enough to find after getting off at square, just ask.. Room on 2nd floor and yes had to carry cases up stairs. Room clean but small, booked a triple so son was on the couch but his bed was comfy as was our king size bed. Loved the old fashion... More

yes we are well familiarised with the experience of "European small" for rooms, but you know it's too small when the logistics of suitcase management becomes a real problem and you have to start shuffling furniture around to manage 2 suitcases. the staff were friendly, no issues. the room was clean the location was good. the breakfast was fine but... Very good hotel, quiet back street. Gave us the opportunity to get lost to get around to find our way back to this one, each day. Very quiet to sleep in at night. No elevator but traveling in Venice, please keep it to a small bag or carry on as you most likely will have to carry your luggage from... More

Iv been to a lot of hotels in different countries but this has got to be the worst one yet. Me and my partner arrived having 4 suitcases between the two of us. No assistance was given to cart them up 4 flights of stairs as their was no lift, and the service in general is average, even poor. When... More

NEVER EVER go to this hotel EVER!!! Who cares if your not near san marco's square or the bascillica, there are plenty of other GREAT hotels in venice just 200 - 500m - 1km away for incredibly cheaper prices! and everything is still walking distance! around the hotels that are cheaper come incredible food with incredible osteria's for half the... Okay, for a short 2-3 day stay this hotel is fair. We stumbled on this hotel, because everything was sold out during June and it had 1 room left. By the time we arrived, the hotel was fully booked. It ranged about 200 euros a night in high season. GOOD POINTS - Air Conditioned worked and it's a quiet a/c... More

The hotel is situated in a very good location as it is just a few minutes away from St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge, close to plenty of restaurants and shops. Hotel Ateneo is like a boutique hotel; beautifully decorated having a traditional Venetian style. The breakfast room is rather small, but food was decent and plentiful. This included... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The building is historic and was once the residence of well-to-do merchants’ families. It was fitted out as a hotel in 1959, by the noble Sereni family, and extends over 4 floors, a typical period feature, facing onto the wonderful canal "dei barcaioli," reserved for gondolas. Thanks to the full-scale restoration in 2002, the Ateneo Hotel has maintained the unspoiled charm of a typical seventeenth-century Venetian residence. ... more   less
