Hotel Ateneo Veneto is located near the Teatro Fenice in the San Marcos district of Venice, within walking distance from most of Venice's top sights. This is very convenient and will also drive you mad after a while. Lost of gondolas, selfie sticks and narrow streets packed with people. The hotel is nice and quiet and has a small court... More

This Hotel was a delight to stay in. It was in a quiet little street, but only a few minutes walk from San Marco square. We were particularly impressed with the reception staff, Deborah, Massimo and Stefan. Others such as the breakfast staff and cleaners were also friendly and helpful. Our bedroom was immaculately clean and typically Italian with murano... More

A truly wonderful little gem of a hotel, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main streets. Having a late flight into Marco Polo Airport, we were concerned how we would get our connections across to Venice. The hotel has a 24hr reception and Massimo was extremely helpful giving us information and was greeted with a friendly smile... More

The hotel is an architectural delight, exquisitely located, charmingly hidden behind an elegant courtyard. The room was small and perfectly furnished. The bathroom was bigger than expected and very well fitted. Everything was clean. The breakfast was adequate, served in a necessarily cramped room. The breakfast and housekeeping people were vivacious, patient, kind and helpful. There were four reception staff... More

Deborah provided us with fabulous tips and great assistance here in Venice. Extremely welcoming and helpful. Fab to arrange a direct water transfer to the hotel, everything you need or want to see is within easy reach. Standard triple worked out just fine for us, a little tight in areas but all the space you need.

Hotel at good location with other services but rooms are very small. The room allotted to me was 204 which is like a prison cell (I recommend you to visit and see that such size rooms are available for humans). I've posted a pic as well. Bed was also very small and was shifted to wall to create space to... More

Positive points: - good location and near to old town (but too difficult to find it at the first time) - average room with view to narrow canal - friendly staffs (they helped us for converter) - normal breakfast Negative points: - they charged us 20 EUR for one child (but the extra bed was no stable) - no coffee... We stayed in a quadruple room and contrary to other rooms we had in Venice, this one had high ceilings, a great bathroom and a very good breakfast. We made the mistake of getting off at San Marco - Zaccaria and walked to the hotel with two kids and lots of luggage. The hotel is easily accessible by taxi. The... More

I visited Venice for three days with my younger sister; we booked last minute and didnt do too much research we just wanted a short trip, some sunshine, culture and good food! We flew to Treviso and got the airport bus to Piazza de le Roma bus station, a round trip was €18 and about an hour transfer to the... More

It was quite difficult to find this hotel as the street, Calle Minelli, is not named on the map we got from Tourist Information. However, when we got there the trek from the water bus was worth it. We had chosen a superior room which was beautiful. Cool, comfortable and luxurious. We didn't need to ask staff anything but they... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
