The hotel is reasonably priced in a very expensive location so although it is not as grand or a roomy as we would expect, the location made up for everything. It was perfect to walk out and within 2 minutes be standing in St Marks Square. We had incredibly hot weather are the air conditioning was excellent.

I saw the reviews on trip advisor and was a little concerned. I thought maybe the guests were being a little difficult. Wow ! In my opinion this hotel is bad, so bad we checked out after one night and checked in to a much nicer hotel for the same price. The A/C stopped working and the staff didn't care... More

The best thing about this hotel is its location. It is just a few metres from the San Marco which is the heart of the city. We got upgraded -- hence we had a large and comfortable room. The hotel staff were very polite and efficient --- however they were not too friendly. We had breakfast here -- costing us... More

Great location!!! It's within 1 block of St. Mark square and the Bastille Close to ferry stop and restaurants, Air condition works wonderful and is on when you aren't in the room. You get to walk into a cool room after walking in Venice 92 degree heat, Very clean and staff were helpful, they helped print boarding passes for our... More

Hotel lobby had a terrible odor and dirty furnishings. We were not given the room types we had booked, instead they put us in two small rooms with two single beds with awful mattresses and the rooms were a floor apart, so we were separated from our teenage children. There were gaps at the top of the door that lets... More

Me and my family visited this hotel and stayed there for three nights. It is a very old hotel and the lobby and hallways smell bad. The rooms were otherwise clean and the AC worked well. The staff was very indifferent, never once greeting us on our way in or out and the breakfast was extremely poor, so you have... More

Many pluses, location being one. Very close to St. Mark's Square which has the Doge Palace and St. Mark's Basilica, plus easy access to boat taxi's, gondolas, etc. Room nicely decorated and housekeeping attentive. Toilet was running and it was taken care of right away. No coffee pot in room but you can call the front desk and get one... More

Stayed in Best Western Albergo for 3 nights & found the hotel in a great location just behind Saint Marks Square & handy for all the major attractions & close to water bus stops. The hotel is very busy efficiently run but more attention to detail should be made to the staff who can be abrupt at times.Breakfast is served in... Stayed 3 nights in a 2 bedroom family room. Very hard to find so great for us with 11 year old twins. Close to everything and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring all the little laneways. Staff (Marco) extremely helpful and warned us of tourist traps. Also great with directions and help with ferries etc.. Breakfast included and very good each day.... More

Stayed here in early June. My room was the farthest, on the 5th floor. Room was nice, typical Venetian interior. Breakfast was okay. You get what you pay. The hotel is a glimpse away from the famous San Marco Square hence the name. However, there was this unpleasant smell came from the carpet, I believe it was the wet carpet... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
