We stayed in the double deluxe room over looking the canal on the third floor and the room was amazing. The hotel is positioned in a very convenient place, close to transport and lots of restaurants. Worth every dollar.

A perfect little hotel in a quiet and very convenient location. I loved it and would be happy to stay there again. Located on a small canal very near the vaporetto main station. There is not any other information I can give other than to say that the manager was very accomodating and lent me a current converter so I... More

The hotel was clean and sunny. Sits on a small canal only a few hundred feet off the Grand Canal. Walking distance to both the bus station and the train station. Lovely breakfast room with a nice breakfast spread. Clean and bright room and lovely bathroom - nice shower. Wish we had stayed there longer! Will return.

We stayed here 3 nights and enjoyed just about everything about it. Our only complaint was the girl who works the main desk was fairly rude an un willing to help. She made us feel like we were interrupting her big important job to answer our questions. Is she not literally there to check us in, answer our questions, give... More

Very good price/value. Comfortable location (5 mins by walk to Railway station, taxi/ bus station and at the same time - in the heart of Venice. Simple breakfast, kind staff. Rooms relatively cheep-looking, and sound-isolation is not really good. We had a room with canal view - nice and very positive.

We spent our 20th wedding anniversary (long week-end) here as we had been to Venice during our honey-moon as well. The first room (Deluxe) we got had a bath room where the whole ceiling as well as the shower wall were blackened from mold. The sleeping room showed water leakage from the A/C as well as from the fridge. They... More

The only positive to this hotel was that it was close to the train station so we could walk. The room they placed us in was right behind the reception, so because the lobby was at our door it was quite loud and could pretty much hear everyones conversations, unfortunately we don't speak Italian so we couldn't even join in.... Beware….This Hotel offered us a Return journey to Murano Glass Factory via St. Marks Square by water taxi for 10 euros each. So off we went. However the return water taxi never showed up!!!! So we had to make our own way back to the hotel at an extra cost to us.. The next day we raised this issue with... More

Hotel Gardena is in a good location – within easy “suitcase rolling” distance from Santa Lucia station (up and over the canal bridge and a short walk). This also means easy access to the many and regular water taxi services which leave just outside the station. The hotel has a quite elegance about it and is comfortable, clean and quiet... More

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. I booked this based on proximity to the Ferrovia Train Station. Indeed, we could quickly walk here from our train on arrival and also leaving without having to buy the Vaporetto ticket immediately. Service was very good. There was almost always someone at the desk for help. Spoke very good English. Very knowledgeable... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
