Stayed here for 3 nights/4 days. First time in Venice and was a bit worried as to what to expect and how to negotiate the city. Caught the bus from Treviso airport to the Piazzale Roma bus station and located this hotel so easily. Less than 300 metres from the bus/train station. Ideal location to explore Venice. All places of... More

Don't expect anything upscale or luxurious, but it is at a great location within view of the grand canal and within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The interior of the hotel is fascinating with its simple paintings on all of the walls.

Truth be told, $300+ per night hotels are not exactly my cup of tea, but in Venice expect to go much more than 100 for a hostel... My better half looked on TA and declared 'Venice, honey, it's so romantic! When are we coming here again, never?' - and it sealed the deal. I called the hotel directly and asked... More

This was a very nice hotel with nice rooms. It air conditioning worked well - which was extremely needed in the Venice heat. The breakfast was good with excellent cappuccinos. It was very convenient to the train station. It is on the edge of Venice, which is nice to avoid the crowds and noise but was a far walk to... More

Close to bus & train station and water bus stations. Stayed here because also 5 min walking distance to people mover to board a cruise. The front desk staff was very helpful and nice. The breakfast was good, the wifi worked great and both our rooms were nice and updated (we stayed one night before and after the cruise). Looked... More

Stayed 2 nights, we arrived by train and was only short walk away which is great. Checked-in and was escorted to our room. It was nice and clean with toilet separate to shower which I loved. Balcony view of the Grand Canal. Once out and about seeing lots of tourist walking with their luggage in search of their hotel I... More

Upon arrival in Venice, we were pleased to find that our hotel was within walking distance from the train station. The lobby was well worn, but was in nice and clean condition, and the staff was friendly. When we got to the room, we found that the holder for the shower head was broken and the television wouldn't work. I... More

Enjoyed our stay at the Gardena and would definitely book this again for a short break. Positives: Well located for bus and train connections. Clean and modern rooms with traditional Venetian decor. Free water in room fridge. Negatives: Nothing major. Breakfast is basic, but ample. Would have liked some fresh fruit juices and more than one fruit choice on cold... More

A cozy hotel with a wonderful and accommodating staff. Peter in particular was so helpful. My wife and I arrived early on our first day and he made arrangements for us to check-in to a beautiful room overlooking the garden patio. He also helped us to translate English to Italian so we could communicate with a relative in Venice. The... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
