Our room was spacious and even if it didn't overlook the grand canal it was perfect. The vaporetto is an inexpensive mode of travel and even if it's always crowded it's ideal for sightseeing. The stop nearest to the hotel is San Stae. It can be difficult to get to at first but after the first day you will know... More

The hotel was HARD to find, but eventually you can find your way. It's located in a back alley, but right near a beautiful empty dock. The room was small, yet mostly comfortable and the breakfast served was very good. The reason why I was it was okay was for one main issue. There was blood on the shower curtain... More

Staff was friendly and patient assisting us by answering numerous 'dumb' questions. Helped us get a water taxi at 4am which we appreciated. Location is a bit hard to find at first but is a nice and quiet location. Walkways near hotel are not well lit at night. Room we had didn't have a balcony overseeing the grand canal, I... More

An older hotel located on the Grand Canal, we took a short taxi drive from the train station to land right at the hotel dock. The hotel itself is charming but dark, the real plus being the deck area on the canal. There is an inside bar, and they also serve drinks at the entrance patio and on the canal... More

If a bit difficult to find at first (at San Stae stop by a vaporetto, turn at your left in front of the church, cross the small bridge, walk in the alley, cross two alleys on your left, turn on the second alley to the end of it, (you will cross two bridges), then turn right, first left, then left... This hotel is a real gem - affordable yet conveniently located, with lovely rooms and artwork and very helpful staff. The only negative is the absence of a lift, and very steep stairs to the second floor! I couldn't fault it otherwise, very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast included in the price and it was more than adequate, and rooms... More

We have looked at this hotel in the past, but always thought a place on the Grand Canal at this price must have something wrong with it. We took the plunge (showing a friend the delights of Venice), and I'm happy to say our fears were unfounded! A little refurbishment here and there wouldn't hurt, but a very nice hotel,... More

If like me you want to stay in a hotel that has the atmosphere of Venice, then this is the hotel for you. Out of the way, but a short walk from Rialto, this boutique gem faces the Grand Canal. There is a lovely collection of Venetian Glass and a massive chandelier in the lobby. I have stayed here each... More

Good location, if a little hard to find at first. Very friendly, helpful, welcoming staff. Yes the rooms are a little small, but with the space at a premium in Venice and the central location, it didn't really matter.

A lovely hotel at the Grand Canal, with short walking distances to the railway station, Rialto Bridge and St. Mark Square. Taxi took us from the airport directly to the entrance of the hotel. Quiet, nice and spacious room at the top floor with windows overlooking the backyard. Friendly staff and good breakfast with a lovely terrace towards the Canal.... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
