Excellent location, the hotel is right next to a place where you can hire Gondolas and within walking distance of all prime shopping boutiques. Transfer from airport to hotel was smooth. It has a beautiful church right outside it. Feels very historic with an impressive reception (especially the Murano glass centrepiece). Staff efficient and friendly. View, not much really, was... The Bauer is a very nice, elegant hotel in an excellent location. Our room was lovely and roomy and the bathroom well appointed. That being said, it just felt like something was "missing"...and I can't quite put my finger on it. I think the staff, while very professional and polite, lacked the friendliness that can make a hotel stay so... More

The hotel is located in the middle of high end shopping. The rooms for the cost was not up to par in my opinion. I was somewhat upset the rooms were not ready to be occupied at official check in time, we had to wait 1 hr. We had two connecting rooms facing the grand canal. I was surprised to... More

Reservation - The Bauer hotel came recommended by a friend. My initial interactions over the phone were good. The agent was very professional and my request for an upgrade was granted which I found a nice gesture. This however was tainted by the fact that our room (Casa Nova Suite) was in another building adjacent to the Bauer Hotel and... More

I was here for 2 nights on the 12th and 13th of July. First, the positives. The location is perfect. It is right on the Grand Canal and a block from St. Mark's. The lobby of the hotel was very nice and I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. The airline lost our luggage and the front desk... More

We stayed at the Hotel Bauer on our Italy trip with Gate 1 Travel as the "A" upgrade thinking this would be a first-class hotel. There was nothing first class about the service received or room itself. Even though it was the off season and nobody was at the hotel, they gave us a room facing a brick wall literally... More

We have just returned from a fantastic 3 night stay in the Bauer Hotel. There are 3 'parts' to this Hotel - Il Palazzo (the original and most expensive part of the building overlooking the Grand Canal), L'Hotel (the 1940's section adjoining the rear of Il Palazzo overlooking a side canal and square) and Casanova (an annexe adjacent to the... I did ot have an upgraded room, but still had partial canal view and city view. Brocade and other luxururious fabrics on beds and chairs. Could have stayed in the bathroom forever. Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
