Recently returned from a 2 night stay (July 6-7). The Bauer is a wonderful hotel in a perfect location, just steps from the Piazza San Marco. The hotel lobby is elegant and spacious. The rooms were very nice, clean and very comfortable. The buffet breakfast was very good and complete with outdoor tables overlooking the Grand Canal which was simply... More

My husband and I absolutely loved this hotel and Venice. Great location. Front desk staff were always helpful and friendly. We had the superior room with the jacuzzi tub and view of the street below as well as the canal. Great for people watching. Room was spacious and comfortable. Decorating was outdated but that didn't bother us at all. Bed... More

We have just returned from 3 nights in Venice at the Bauer Hotel. The location is second to none - literally a minute from St Mark's Square and, despite the rather odd modern appearance of the city side of the hotel, it overlooks a tiny pretty canalside square in Venice where the gondoliers congregate. The piece de resistance is undoubtedly... More

Stayed here on our last 2 days in Italy with my sister and 2 teenage boys. It was terrific. The staff was very accomodating. We had 2 fantastic rooms that shared a single door to the hallway but separate doors and keys to reach each allowing the boys the illusion that they were on their own. The rooms overlooked the... Staying at The Bauer was a splurge for us on our first trip to Venice (April 21-26), but the hotel proved to be excellent. The location was perfect near San Marco with a beautiful terrace on the Grand Canal across from San Salute. We did not take a "canal view" room...and while we had no view the room was good,... More

My husband and I stayed at the Bauer a little over a week ago. We both felt that the location was excellent. Very central and easy to catch a vaporetto. The lobby was classy. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The breakfast buffet was included in the price and was quite good with a large selection of pastries, meats,... More

Our two day stay at the Bauer was great. The location is right next to St. Mark's Square. We did not have a balcony or canal view but the room was good and plenty big enough. The hotel staff were very helpful. We also enjoyed the breakfast which was included. The only problem we had was departing to the train... More

We booked our room at Bauer based on reviews from this website, as well as, their website. The pictures are misleading. This hotel had to be top class in the 70s, but it needs some serious updating. Although everything was still in nice condition, it was just extremely dated - mirrored corridors, wood paneling that was just a bad wood... More

The Bauer Hotel is less than 5 minutes walk from San Marco so is very central. Most things were in walking distance and the nearest water bus stop is just a block away. The hotel is wonderful, very luxurious. We had a lovely room with a very big bathroom. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as men are required... More

Great experience. Stayed with my wife for a long weekend on a 'deal' (240Euros/night all in for a great room with canal view). The hotel staff were very warm and welcoming, and their restaurant recommendations were faultless. The hotel manager greeted us and was very chatty - he was new to the hotel from Milan. The place oozes luxury but... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
