4 nights in a suite overlooking a side canal of the Grand Canal was perfect. The evening Gondoliers' serenades wafted up to our room on the fourth floor. Breakfast overlooking the Grand Canal was breathtaking and the service was first rate. The only negative was the offhand receptionist- he found other things to do whilst in the middle of serving... The Bauer was the crown jewel of our Italian adventure. While we stayed at other five star hotel throughout Italy, there is something so special about the Bauer. Thsi summer was our thrid time there, and we are alreday planning a fourth trip for next year. While the Bauer is not inexpensive by any means, it is clearly worth it.... More

A very upscale, but not flashy, hotel that treats customers as customers. The best part is the terrace right on the Grand Canal, overlooking the Salute Church directly across. Breakfast on the terrace, where you can take 10 minutes or an hour very comfortably, is super, as you watch the gondoliers right in front of you getting their boats ready... More

This hotel was our first stop on a 12 day trip to Italy so my partner insisted on stepping out for a better place. Unfortunately euros don't get you much in Venice these days. Though the location was convenient, the entrance is in front of a busy gondola station,so there's always a crowd to greet you at the door. The... More

We have just returned from an eight-night stay at The Bauer Hotel in Venice. We could not have been more pleased with the hotel. The Bauer is in such a convenient location. The staff is friendly, attentive, and they speak English. The hotel is a short distance from St. Mark Square and Accademia Bridge. The Terrace Restaurant is right on... More

Amazing, amazing, amazing. The Bauer is located on the Grnad Canal steps away from San Marco. The front desk staff is great and the breakfast terraces are breathtaking. Venice is a city w/o comparison and the Bauer only adds to it. We had a beautiful room, with a window on the side canal where we could hear gondoliers singing -... More

We were expecting a first-rate, classy hotel in an amazing location and we were not disappointed. The room was beautifully decorated, with a king-size bed. The room size is a bit small but a roomy walk-in closet with space enough to set up an opened suitcase was helpful. Service was superb. The view from the restaurant terrace on the Grand... More

Booked a fantastic trip at this very amazing hotel with Air France Holidays. The agents at Air France Holidays were so knowledgable and friendly! The hotel was in a great place and had the best staff.

We upgraded to the Bauer when booking a Gate 1 air/hotel package in April to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We are still in awe of the gracious treatment we received and their incomparable location, including outdoor rooftop "Settimo Cielo" breakfast setting. You look to the left at sunrise and there is the Bacino San Marco coming to life, with... More

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at this wonderful hotel. We sprung for the suite and it was worth every penny! Our room was spacious, the airconditioning was great, the decor was luxurious and the service was outstanding! We had 4 huge windows in our room and views of the canal and gondoliers passing by was standard. When... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
