Location is excellent - right in the center of St. Marks Square - easy access. Loved the spiral stairs and the lobby area very inviting. The breakfast provided for the large group was good with choices

You can't beat the location. This is literally 2 minutes walk from St. Mark's Square and right by the water! My husband and I were in Venice for our honeymoon. We emailed them ahead of time to request for a higher floor for our room and letting them know that this is our honeymoon trip and they're very prompt and... More

We really enjoyed our stay in Venice. The Hotel was perfectly located only 2 minutes from St Mark's Square and the hotel terrace overlooking the grand canal. The staff were polite and very helpful, breakfast was excellent. We did not have a view from our room but we did book when on offer so no complaint. There is also a... More

Great location, 2 mins walk from St Marks & backs onto the water. Very friendly staff. Did not get a room with a view which was a little disappointing for the price paid so would specify this with any agent you are booking the hotel with if not booking direct. However, as we were out and about almost all the... More

This has just about got to be THE best place to stay in Venice. We will certainly book the Bauer again when we re-visit Venice. From the arrival on a private water taxi that takes you literally to the door of the hotel (so much better than lugging suitcases around the narrow streets to some out of the way hotel)... More

We really enjoyed an excellent time during our stay at Bauer. The location of the hotel is perfect... near the sea and St. Mark's square. The hotel staff are very helpful and courteous. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the view from the breakfast room was amazing. I would stay at this hotel again during my next visit to Venice.

Our 15 day excursion to Italy included 4 days in Venice. We stayed at the Bauer and for the price we paid, expected a great location and top level service, which we received. The decor is not our style, but most of the locations in Venice are much the same as this place. Felt like staying in a very cold,... More

At first we made a reservation to the hotel Casa Nova Very disappointed that this is not the level we are used to it The hotel staff was very accommodating and realized we were wrong, and upgraded us to a large room in the hotel, at a fair price. The children wanted to stay in Casa Nova. This hotel suitable... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
