From the very first time we stayed at the Danieli it has captured our heart and our imagination. Superbly located at the point where the Grand Canal opens up into Venice's lagoon, and within short walking distance from the Bridge of Sighs, the Dogi Palace and Piazza di San Marco, it offers some of the most spectacular views in this... We had drinks at the piano bar downstairs and dinner on the rooftop restaurant. The bar had outstanding service with waiters doing everything right to make us feel welcome (we were not hotel guests). I would go so far to say they are some of the best waiters I have ever seen. The restaurant has an absolutely fabulous view with... More

we loved the Hotel Danieli, very old very historic. Our suite overlooked the Grand Canal, and the people watching was awesome. The historic gothic lobby and stairwell are beautiful. a few steps away from the Bridge of Sighs, St Marks Square and the Grand Canal, also step right out into gondola for a tour around Venice by water.

One night stay in June exceeded high hopes and expectations, lived up to its reputation as an old world gem. Renovated, elegant room in the main building, personally escorted to room after check-in. Numerous small delights, helpful and attentive concierge. Let us use gym and a private room for repacking bags after check-out. Highlight of the stay was breakfast on... More

When arriving via water taxi you have the feeling of arriving at a grand European Hotel, this continues as you walk into the lobby filled with comfortable seating and light with gorgeous Murano chandeliers. I went to check in and my room was not ready yet. I was less than thrilled as I'd arrived via London after a long transatlantic... More

We decided to splurge on our recent Venice trip. Yes, this is a beautiful hotel and the lobby is stunning...HOWEVER, the staff is cold and the service is absolutely terrible. I was shocked at how small our room was for $1000. a night - there was not even a place for both of our suitcases.... and we never got so... More

We visited the famous Danieli for afternoon hot chocolate and biscuits. Everything was delightful - the hot chocolate, the décor, the ambience. Service was slow, but then there was more time to soak in the atmosphere. A real experience!

This hotel was just stunning from the moment we entered via the boat entrance. Murano glass chandeliers everywhere, carved dark wood and cozy lobby bar that felt like 1950s Hollywood. Live entertainment at the bar each night that we were there. Located on the Grand Canal, right next to St Mark's Square. The minute you step out onto the grand... More

We went to the rooftop bar on the recommendation of a local. The terrace has the most spectacular view over the Grand Canal and Venice. But that's where the romance ended. The prices were excessive at 24 euro a cocktail and 14 for soft drink. Coffee was around that price too. Which, given the view, I'd be prepared to pay... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
