We stayed at the Danieli from 5-8 April where we had two rooms, one for our two older teen girls and one for my husband and I. My husband informed the lady during check-in that we would like the rooms to be on the same floor if possible as it would make it easier for us to see the girls.... More

This is a great location - on the waterfront and next to the Doge's Palace! We found all the hotel staff courteous, friendly and efficient. Our room (in the Casanova building) was enormous and well furnished and we had a side view of the lagoon. The roof top terrace, where we took breakfast, is a great asset - a wonderful... More

I went with five girl friends and stayed for three nights and we had a fantastic time! Breakfast on the roof terrace was amazing with delightful views. The staff were courteous and the bedrooms were lovely with such comfortable beds. The reception area of the hotel is absolutely unique with a great atmosphere.

If you want to fell like a real king this is the place to go. We have booked a triple room and we had the privilege to stay in a junior suite. The view was excellent overlooking the lagoon. Don't expect an modern bed inside the room, but the atmosphere is great. Special price for the breakfast on the top... More

Beautiful old hotel which was built in the 17 hundreds and is just amazing all the beautiful grand features. Restaurant is located on the roof top over looking the grand canal. Great location to everything, staff are very helpful and friendly and they speak English.

Dear Cherie J, Just a few steps from Palazzo Ducale and il Ponte dei Sospiri, Hotel Danieli is today composed of three distinct palaces, linked to each other by suspended enclosed passageways. The characteristic revolving doors of the hotel open into the majestic lobby of 14th Century Palazzo Dandolo and from the lobby the decorative marble staircase leads up to... More

Used my starwood points for the first time to stay at Hotel Danieli over New Year's Eve. It has been my dream ever since I was a poor college student studying abroad in Venice, to stay at the Danieli and I am so happy that it actually lived up to my dreams! Even though I was using points for my... More

A luxurious experience. On arrival, I was greeted by the concierge, security and bellman who escorted me to reception. Stella immediately made me feel at home. I was pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a lagoon view room. I asked the next day to change to a room with air conditioning as it was not turned on in my section... More

Given its history, the Danieli, indeed, is quite an amazing hotel! However, the service and furnishings did not match my expectations. Staff did not behave in a manner that one would expect from even first class stewards. They rushed us out of the check-out line to avoid a congregating crowd, and then did not return to provide us service as... More

We stayed at Hotel Danieli quite a while back now, and I just cannot get it out of my mind. It is the most sumptuous and beautiful hotel in Venice. We stayed at the Gritti Palace for 2 nights and Danieli for 3 nights. Danieli gives off the more boutique vibe and, in my opinion, just has more character to... More

The hotel staff were amazing, unfailingly polite and friendly. I was expecting a stuffier atmosphere and was pleasantly surprised. Our room overlooked a side street and canal. It was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The heating in the bathroom was hard to adjust but we were cool enough in the bedroom. When we left, the staff came to say goodbye.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
