One night stay in June exceeded high hopes and expectations, lived up to its reputation as an old world gem. Renovated, elegant room in the main building, personally escorted to room after check-in. Numerous small delights, helpful and attentive concierge. Let us use gym and a private room for repacking bags after check-out. Highlight of the stay was breakfast on... More

When arriving via water taxi you have the feeling of arriving at a grand European Hotel, this continues as you walk into the lobby filled with comfortable seating and light with gorgeous Murano chandeliers. I went to check in and my room was not ready yet. I was less than thrilled as I'd arrived via London after a long transatlantic... More

We decided to splurge on our recent Venice trip. Yes, this is a beautiful hotel and the lobby is stunning...HOWEVER, the staff is cold and the service is absolutely terrible. I was shocked at how small our room was for $1000. a night - there was not even a place for both of our suitcases.... and we never got so... More

We visited the famous Danieli for afternoon hot chocolate and biscuits. Everything was delightful - the hot chocolate, the décor, the ambience. Service was slow, but then there was more time to soak in the atmosphere. A real experience!

This hotel was just stunning from the moment we entered via the boat entrance. Murano glass chandeliers everywhere, carved dark wood and cozy lobby bar that felt like 1950s Hollywood. Live entertainment at the bar each night that we were there. Located on the Grand Canal, right next to St Mark's Square. The minute you step out onto the grand... More

We went to the rooftop bar on the recommendation of a local. The terrace has the most spectacular view over the Grand Canal and Venice. But that's where the romance ended. The prices were excessive at 24 euro a cocktail and 14 for soft drink. Coffee was around that price too. Which, given the view, I'd be prepared to pay... More

As soon as you step off your water taxi and into this grand palace your jaw will drop. It is exactly as the pictures show. The open salon on the first floor shouts sit for a cappuccino or Bellini.. And we did just that every afternoon & evening. The hotel is a show place however warm and cozy at the... More

The whole experience at this hotel was fantastic, the rooms are large and amazingly comfortable, all the staff were so helpful, breakfast on the roof terrace was an amazing way to start the day, and the location was close to all the tours and shopping. 10 out of 10

Fantastic! Good value compared to London prices at the likes of The Savoy or Claridges. Amazing cocktails! Service very relaxed. Not at all rushed and left in peace to savour the super luxe interior. A great place to bolt if it starts to rain and you don't have a brolly... Don't buy a brolly... Buy a cocktail and an experience... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
