An excellent luxury hotel, adjacent to St Mark's Square and looking out across the lagoon. We booked via Expedia and weren't disappointed. It is not cheap but you get luxury, elegance and very good (understated) service. We had two connecting rooms and lots of space. Dining was prohibitively expensive for us (there are of course many other options) but breakfast... More

Stayed three nights , in July 2015, excellent hotel in General, location great and very convenient, Excellent breakfast on terrace with astonishing view, Restaurant and bar staff are great, reception and concierge little confused with the crowed. The hotel is a real Museum and a land Mark in Venice you can stop taking photos of the interior. Room is very... More

We just got back to Los Angeles last night but we left our hearts in Venice at the Danieli Hotel! The staff was beyond nice and accommodating to all our needs. The Concierges were super helpful and attentive at all times. The check in and check out was so pleasant. And the room was unforgettable - a beautiful Dandolo Suite,... More

If you pay over a thousand dollars a night !!! and are required to stand in a crowded line in order to check in I don't know who is the bigger fool. Yes, the palazzo portion of the hotel is ornately beautiful but throngs of camera totting tourists are tripping over one and other to gawk at the splendour. The... More

This was a weekend of contrasts. Checking in on Friday around 11.30 a.m. we were faced with chaos as seemingly coachloads of Asian tourists were checking out, with various people queuing to check in. This picture was repeated throughout the weekend until we arrived to re-claim our luggage at eight o'clock Sunday evening - when we found a calm, tranquil... More

Stayed at this beautiful hotel earlier this month, the water taxi drops you off right outside the door, and our welcome was very friendly. The reception, lounge/bar is spacious and very impressive. Our luxurious bedroom overlooked the lagoon with superb views of Venice. Breakfast on the 4th floor terrace also overlooks the lagoon, and offers an extensive choice of menu... More

Hotel Danieli is as beautiful as they come- its centrally located, the views from breakfast are unreal and the rooms comfortable. It was however a bit of a madhouse checking in. We arrived on a hot day and after fighting our way through crowds of tourists on St Marks square and the Grand Canal area we arrived to a crowded... More

The hotel is just like all the pictures. My son and I had adjoining suites that looked out on the lagoon. The staff couldn't have been anymore attentive. The manager actually had someone purchase me a flat iron feeling their converters might not be safe enough. Had lunch both days of the roof top restaurant and the only view like... More

Stayed at the hotel last year ... very excited to be staying in luxury ... wish we hadn't bothered ... the staff who greeted us were rude and very aloof ... infact I was interrupted twice on check-in whilst they served a fellow Italian ... we didn't eat in the restaurant as we were not made to feel welcome ...... Have breakfast on their 4th floor terrace overlooking Grand Canal while tug boats one on bow, one on stern bring cruise ships right in front of you. It is a high end hotel, previously a merchant's residence right next door to St. Mark's Square with a water entrance which you will arrive at from the rail station or airport and... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
