The hotel itself is clean and has a good location. However, the receptionist, who I believe is also the owner, only gave us a smile when we paid. The atmosphere in the hotel was awkward and cold. The room itself was in Victorian style and nice. The air in the room however felt just as old. The worst thing during... More

If you would like to find a hotel near the Piazzale Roma bus terminal as well as the cruise ship port in Venice, then the Hotel Al Malcanton is the hotel for you. We arrived at the bus terminal and walked directly to the hotel in a matter of about 10 minutes. When you are slogging your luggage with you,... More

We arrived late in the night and the owner of the hotel waited for us. The room was very clean with comfortable beds. The stuff is very nice and helpful. The hotel is near the station and it has a good access to all the sites in the city. Thoroughly recommend.

It's an expensive hotel, I paid around £150 per night and if I'm honest, it's expensive if you evaluate the location and conditions in a general way and compared to other hotels which go for the same price and have better conditions and locations. The rooms are beautiful, clean, and bathrooms are ok. Location is good but not great, breakfast... More

This was a lovely hotel. We flew in very late in the evening because our plane was delayed but nevertheless, the staff waited for us and was there upon our arrival. The beds were comfy and everything was very clean. The lady serving breakfast was also very sweet. It’s a great location as it is very close to the bus... More

Everything about our stay in Venice was "no fuss" which was such a relief after coming from Rome which seemed to be a city of chaos. Hotel Al Malcanton is a straight forward hotel offering an okay nights sleep (you can feel the springs in the mattress a little) in a large clean room with air condition, great wifi and... More

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel Close to bus station 10 minute walk Rooms were comfortable and clean and breakfast adequate. Not much interaction from the owner but he wasn't rude and happy to give information if asked.

We stayed here for 3 nights in march. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. It was tricky to find, but you can download the map from their site. The receptioner is not grumpy, as it has been written in some reviews here. The hotel is barroque style, is clean and comfortable. Would highly recommend it!

We stayed here for New Year's Eve, so it was really crowded and prices in Venice were higher than ever. This hotel, however, had a fair price compared to others. The location is good, near to the train station, but not far from Rialto. The room was large and clean and the bathroom too. There was a poor choice of... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
