Nice hotel, good location. Kept forgetting to leave out form for breakfast but managed to sort. Never asked for tourist info so not sure how useful they are. But i would recommend to other people to stay here .

The address given is a region so it took a long time to find. When we arrived, we were told that our room was located elsewhere near San Marco. It took us 45 min to find the building and then the written directions were so poor that we needed a local person to find the suite for us. The suite... More

WOW this place was great. 1 minutes walk from a main route with lots if shops, restaurants, beautiful bridges. 2 mins from the Grand Canal and waterbus stop. Al portico is in a lovely building, don't be put off by the exterior. Like many Italian town buildings it is a great inside, but looks a bit off putting. We had... More

Venice is a unique paradise that will fascinate you to no end! Hence the stay at Venice should compliment your mood that builds up and in all probability you will not feel let down at Al Portico! A small funny place in a secret hideout, so as to say is well furnished and safe to stay in. Alex the Manager... More

just finished our two night break in Venice at the Al portico. Great little place which is clean, comfortable and in an ideal location. Not the nicest hotel in Venice however you haven't got the hefty price tag to go with it. Would definitely stop here again. Thanks

This was the first time to Venice and we stayed here for a week. My honest opinions on this hotel is very good. The location is brilliant with access to great restaurants (reasonably priced compared to other areas) and only a short walk (15mins) from the bus and train station. We stayed on the 1st floor room 3 which was... More

This was the first time my partner and I visited venice. We were looking for a quiet and reasonably priced accommodation (late May) in a good location for five nights. I can honestly say we found all these criteria in Al Portico Guest House. Continental breakfast was prepaid and brought to our room at our selected time(earliest is 9am which... More

It is a little hard to find at first but Google Maps got us there in the end. First impressions were very good, not big and fancy but adequate and clean. After all we were out most of the day exploring Venice. The staff were very friendly and welcoming the Spanish chap was very nice and helpful (sorry I can... More

Interesting location for the travelers to Venice since the guest house just few minutes walk from the Bus station and the Train station, but also in a very quiet neighborhood so you can sleep perfectly. Rooms are large and clean. The staff very friendly and organized. The breakfast is just perfect just you have to tell them in advance what are... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
