We stayed for 3 nights at Aqua Palace and mostly enjoyed our stay. The staff was really wonderful - very helpful and friendly. Our room was nice, but the layout was a bit awkward, which made it feel much smaller than it is. It was also rather dark. The bathroom smelled a bit musty, probably because there was no window... Stayed here for 5 nights in a junior suite with a canal view. Quite expensive but well worth it. Hotel is within a few minutes walk of both St Marks Square and the Rialta Bridge. Staff reasonably helpful and polite. Good breakfast selection. Book the water taxi to and from the airport but you can do this direct on line... More

Aqua is a nice quiet hotel with a staff to match. The location is near San Marco Square. I found the hotel to be dark... not a lot of light. Our room was very dark. The bed was as hard as rocks & the pillows were just as bad. The staff was efficient. The reason I would not return to... More

The Aqua Palace was a highlight of our trip to Italy. The locations was absolutely perfect. It was perfectly situated between the Rialto Bridge and the Piazza San Marco. Both were a 5-7 min walk, and I was pleasantly surprised with the directional arrows all over the city that would help you find your way. We had a gorgeous room... More

Room clean and comfortable. The staff (Sylvia and Gabrielle) were fantastic gave us great welcome and helped organise trips and restaurants. Drinks at night sitting outside on the river entrance - only two places - was so beautiful. Thank- you to all the staff I definitely recommend this hotel

We had a great vacation in Italy and we visited Venice after Rome and Florence. We had a good stay in all 3 places but clearly this was the best of the lot. We had a suite which had great space and an excellent bath. Location is extremely central and it is 5 min walk to San Marco square and... More

The hotel is perfectly located in San Marco close to all main attractions in Venice. Romantic 5 night stay including water taxi direct from the airport to the hotel superb. I would say the hotel is stylish decorated and this creates a very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast is good with a variety of choice in fresh fruit, fruit juices,... More

A wonderfully romantic 4-day break, all arranged with Giorgio beforehand via e-mail. Water taxi from the station, where we were met by a charming guide who accompanied us to the hotel. Helpful and enthusiastic staff, from Giorgio and his colleagues at Reception to the lovely lady who managed the hotel restaurant at breakfast. Excellent suggestions from reception staff as to... Our stay at Aqua Palace Hotel was a wonderful way to visit Venice for the the first time. Two standout points: they made arrangements for us to be met at Piazzale Roma by a personal guide who helped get us and our luggage onto a private taxi in the middle of a taxi and vapporetto strike. Her help was immeasurable!... More

Firstly the-arrival. It cost €145 but take the hotels option for a direct water transfer from the airport. Taxi to the water taxi harbour then we had a private motor launch that sped us across the bay, slowly entered Venice under a bridge then slowly through the canals between the gondolas right up to the steps of the hotel. This... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
