The hotel was marvelous! The rooms were nice and spacious. The location was perfect, away from the crowds but close to a vaporetta water bus station. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room rate special included a very nice dinner and breakfast was provided each morning. It was located next door to a museum which was very helpful... More

Great location - close enough to the train station and vaporetto stops to make for an easy arrival and very easy to see all of the sites in Venice. The room was spotless and the decor was lovely. The problem we encountered was the situating of our room. We were on the 3rd floor, which had no windows, just a... More

We booked this hotel based on tripadvisor rat of and we were not disappointed. People were very friendly and helpful. We booked a room for 4 which ended up being two large size rooms connected by a door. Very comfortable and clear. Location is perhaps not the best as it takes a good 15 min walk to get to key... Booked this for my husband's 40th. The room itself was beautiful with damask walls and a chandelier. Very clean and comfortable. Not huge but large for a busy city. It was easy to reach from the train station by following the signs to the Natural History Museum which is next door. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the... More

On check in we were greeted by a lovely young lady, who was very sweet and showed us to our room. We had the superior triple room, and it was lovely. Not quite what I expected, because it was a queen bed and a rollaway bed, but it was me and my two sons so I was just fine with... More

We booked this on Tuesday and arrived on Wednesday. The price was very reasonable, especially for an apartment. We walked to the main hotel for breakfast each morning and enjoyed the variety they offered for breakfast. The hotel staff was very friendly full of information. We enjoyed the location of the apartment mainly as it was located not too far... More

We book last minute at Al Duca and were surprised at how affordable it was despite being the last weekend of Carnivale. The hotel a 10-15 minute walk from the train station and about 25 minutes from San Marco. The receptionist was very nice and gave us a great recommendation for dinner. The room was small but was had everything we... More

We had a nice stay at the Hotel Al Duca and would recommend it to others. The directions on their web site were very easy to follow and the hotel was easy to find after getting off the Alilaguna from the Airport. That's saying something for Venice where it doesn't take much to get lost. The location was great, a... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
