A lovely, clean hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and had an abundance of information about things to do and places to go. In the morning we were treated to a lovely continental breakfast in our room and the lady who brought it couldn't do enough to help. Great value for money, would definitely recommend.

What a lovely place to stay in such a beautiful city! The owner is so helpful and really friendly. The apartment had a beautiful view of the canals so we can watch the gondolas passing by anytime. We can also hear them singing if we open the window. It's like being in a movie! Highly recommended!

Our stay at Palazzo Minelli was wonderful, and started on a great note with Matteo's greeting and room upgrade to one with a view of the canals and gondolas passing by. He sat with us and pointed out all the worthwhile places to visit on our trip to Venice, hours that the sights would be open, and restaurants to try.... More

Very old bed and breakfast on the canal. Difficult to find if you don't take a water taxi. Too many steps (10 suitcases between 4 people). Bad air conditioning. Sad breakfast. Morning staff unfriendly and late. We were greeted by a very nice young man who is the owners son who was very personable and helpful. Owner actually helped to... More

Although this hotel is very old and worn, some of the rooms have amazing views of the little canals. Our group of four couples reserved 4 "canal view" rooms. Three of us had views, but one did not. Be sure to ask for a room with a view! Watching the gondolas begin and end the day was a wonderful experience.

We stayed at this hotel in June in a triple room. The room was quite spacious for the 3 of us. However, it was VERY difficult to get too. We got off the water taxi and took us almost 1 hour to find the location, all while lugging our baggage with us. It's well hidden off of the courtyard. There... More

Our host Matteo was very helpful. He called us when we hadn't arrived to make sure we hadn't gotten lost (we were just waiting for my sister to arrive), which I thought was an extra level of concern you wouldn't ever find at a hotel. The beds were comfortable enough, and there was a flight of stairs, but the canal... More

Wonderful B&B that is very close to St. Mark's and even closer to Fenice Theater. Only problem were the steep staircases - no elevator! Normally not a problem but my grandmother hurt herself before we left. Didn't hinder the enjoyment, but good to know! Being able to hear gondoliers going by (especially the ones singing) was our favorite thing to... More

First let me say Mateo was great. Communication in advance, texted and met up with us to make sure we found it properly. Room was clean and fine, especially considering the rate. It was a double with a view of the courtyard. Breakfast croissant, and juice was good enough to get us moving and seeing the sites. Comfortable Double bed,... More

As per the title, location is great. It is really right in the centre of Venice, easy walk to everything you might want to see, but tucked away in a little lane so not to loud. Room was on the third floor, where you don't actually get served breakfast, just a croissant each given outside the door, I think the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
