This guest house is ideally located on the Grande Canal and close to San Margo Square. The room was neat and clean and just what we needed for our 4 day stay in Venice. Francisca met us at the door and explained how everything worked and included some local restaurants and sites we should see. Very nice people and very... More

This B&B is just one bridge from the Arsenal vapor error stop which makes it really convenient for getting there with luggage. Only two minor complaints. 1) The entry hall is very dark (we took a flashlight with after stumbling around the first evening). 2) The grout in the bathroom floor was not clean, in a scary way - you... I booked this hotel for location and price. Francesca was excellent at providing us with answers to all our questions. The rooms were very clean and pleasant. The location was excellent walking distance to everything. A ferry stand was right there for Convenience. You do have to share a bathroom. This was always very clean an never a wait time... More

Paolo the proprietor is charming, helpful and easy going. The Guest House is superbly located as it is within easy walking distance of St Marks, etc, as well as near where the real Venetians eat and drink. Clean, secure and good value. We had a great stay.

Our room no.1 was facing to Canal Grande, what would you like more than having a coffee watching the sunset at your window, seeing people having the evening walk, while boats big and small are rushing around in one of the most romantic places on Earth. Nice owners too, free coffee, tea and snacks waiting for you in the room.... More

I took my girlfriend here on a surprise holiday, and was amazed at how cheap this hotel was compared to others in Venice. We stayed for 4 nights in September 2014. Our hosts were very polite mostly kept to themselves. It was wonderfully quiet in this hotel, being slightly further away from the busier areas. We had the occasional boat... More

Echoing much of what other people say, this offers great value. I'm sure more luxurious options are plentiful, but the location is simply brilliant and the service offered is great. Our room was simple but clean and ample for what we needed.

This is a simple hotel that was clean, conveniently located, and unbelievably inexpensive. The shared bathrooms were clean and we never encountered any issues with them. The "included breakfast" is a pre packaged croissant and tea bags. The towels were stiff and the bed was firm-- again, this is a very no frills place but it was clean and quiet... More

We stayed here for three nights during the busiest Carnival weekend. The guest house has six rooms and a shared bathroom. Everything is very clean and the owners are very nice. One busy morning, they let us use their own bathroom, because everybody was apparently trying to use the shared one at the same time. Really appreciated that! No breakfast... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
